90s boy bands had some really, really good tunes.

I love 90s music, from early dance music to 2-step Garage in the late 90s/early 00s, as well as RnB.

It's decidedly off-topic, but for the past hour or so, I've been listening to an Old Skool UK Garage mix on Youtube, that also mixes in some pop and R&B (like Sisqó, Billy Crawford, Liberty X), but it's heavy on the classic chart-toppers in the genre, like Craig David, Bedingfield, Mis-Teeq, Sweet Female Attitude, Artful Dodger.

Have a listen, it's in 9 parts, and all 9 parts are available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aIke4qXb64

There was this group called Ween that was pretty popular in the 90's. They are my favorite band. Master satirists and at the same time musical prodigies.

Rock in the 90's got back to it's roots. Alternative rock was great then. Eurodance was pretty cool too, and for me, the main difference between eurodance and club-pop today is that eurodance didn't pretend to be the greatest genre ever conceived of. It was just dance music and nothing more. No fake empowerment, no shout outs to haters, just fun, sometimes annoying music. At leas that Barbie Girl song KNEW it was annoying, unlike Soulja Boy who seems unaware of how much he sucks. All in all, music in the 90s is only vastly different from today if you overanalyze it and take sides. It seems today that music is created in a vacuum, whereas even in the 90s it was made organically. Especially since 2008 it's been really bad.

Some 90s music - Fun Loving Criminals and Ian McCulloch from Echo & The Bunnymen recorded a cover of Sinatra's Summer Wind:

When I remember the 90s, I think of all the eurodance that was all over the radio stations back then. 2Unlimited, Snap, Venga Boys, Mr. President, Captain Jack, Technotronic...

AND, of course boy bands and girl bands. I remember older people saying how much 90s music sucks when compared to the 60s and 70s.

You'd have bands and artists that would get a lot of critical acclaim, but not a lot of airplay. Maybe in a one-hour slot every week on MTV/TMF, if they were lucky.

As for the previous decade (2000-2009), plenty of crap, but also some artists on the charts I genuinely enjoyed: M.I.A., Arctic Monkeys, Adèle, Lupe Fiasco, Kings Of Leon, Gossip...

YES! 90s eurodance is the best. For me, I grew up in a fundamentalist household, so I couldn't listen to any modern music, but for me and eurodance back then it was love at first hearing it. So now that I'm older, I'm obsessed with it. But yeah, the 90s had some pretty decent "alternative" and pop rock stuff, my favorite being Gin Blossoms, but the real greatest music of the 90s has to be eurodance by leaps and bounds. I don't know, the world would be at least 500% greater if I just could turn on a radio and hear 90s eurodance all the time. Seriously, it's like my FAVORITE music except for maybe eurobeat. I don't know, this has the same effect for me, reminding me of a better time, all that stuff. 90s eurodance though, truly great music. I don't care that it's pop, I don't care if it's not deep or emotionally complex, it's just the best stuff ever.

Well, 1000Knives, it's not a favourite genre of mine, but some of the songs have a huge nostalgia factor for me- mostly because they remind me of my primary school days. Must admit I really, really liked "Mr. Vain" when I was little.
Here's a couple more I thought were cool:

Of course, I must represent my own country:

Something a bit more subtle by our most popular Eurodance duo (it almost sounds like something Seal would make):

90s music was the best IMO. Didnt really appreciate it until the decade was over though.

Best Electro-industrial (FLA, Skinny puppy, Allied Vision, Numb, Cubanate, Godflesh and more!)

Best metal (earthtone9, sepultura, Fear factory, will haven, Sludge metal ect)

Best mainstream electronica (prodigy, aphex twin, chemical brothers ect)

Best rock (grunge like nirvana ect)

Best dance music (old-school rave, acid, Goa, Psy, DnB ect)

IMO of course :D

QFT!

90s was the best, except for DnB and Psy, they didn't have Kindzadza and Black Sun Empire back then, neither did they have Broken Note.

Yeah, that's a fair point - psy didnt really get good till the 00's. I do remember hearing DnB that was in that BSE/Technical Itch type sound back around 1996/07 thnough but don't ask me for any names - it was a mate of mine back then used to play for me. Wish I could remember :(

Well according to some elitists, Hallucinogen was Psy back in the 90s and they've got a couple of serious bangers together with a whole lot of serious missers lol.
