I posted this in another thread, but here it is again--one of the neatoest-sounding instruments I've run across:

Right now I want a sitar and some Egyptian drums, but not sure how to attain either.

Gonna make a solo album when I have the funds...it will be half metal with vocals (will have to use autotune for the singing unfortunately...will likely be mostly growls because of that...) (a lot of different influences) and half progressive metal that is instrumental with tribal drums, sitar and Egyptian drums.

So to answer your question...not sure if it is an interest in unusual/obscure instruments as much as unusual/obscure composition styles. Gotta know the rules before ya can break them well :)

@mindsigh

Hey I've heared of the chapman stick. That thing is wicked. It looks so hard to play, as it has so many strings!

Egyptian Drums? do you mean like Darbuka (goblet drum)? haha I've seen so many of these here In america it must be so rare! My friend has a sitar (I don't know much about sitars but he said its a cheap one) he got it from someone who went aboard the sound of it is AMAZING! I held it and plucked a few strings here and there. Good luck with your metal album man.. :twisted:

I never considered the Chapman Stick to be unusual, but I've been into King Crimson for a while.

The Warr Guitar is pretty neat too.

Thanks for the luck, where can I redeem it for money to fund the album?

Also, where would I buy the Darbuka/sitar then? I am guessing a specialty store.

i'm partial to contrabass/deep bass instruments such as the bass harmonica, the contrabass ocarina, the contrabass trombone [very wicked sound!], contrabass clarinet, contrabass saxophone [a MAMMOTH], subcontrabass flute, subcontrabass recorder, et al.

I freaking love the sound of a duduk. I wish I could find more music that features it almost exclusively.

If you had to hold that thing without falling over and play it at the same time, you'd look pretty serious too. :lol: I bet that takes some serious concentration.
