I loooooooooooooooooooooove fantasy/sci-fi.

I chaperoned my son's class recently at the Los Angeles County Fair. We went into a certain building and I asked the teacher, "What is this exibit?" He said, "It's science, but it crosses over into sci-fi." I looked down at my son and said, "Evan, we've come to the right place."

Is there any way you can pay to have them typed for you? Or if it's too expensive, would a friend be willing to help you out?

I've been writing for roughly two to three years. It all started during my last year of high school when all of my friends, for reasons I don't even know to this day, started writing short stories and sharing them around. I got bored one night and figured why not do my own. One month, five hundred pages, and a hundred thousand words later I finished my first book. Been working on a trilogy, but hard to fit time in with class and social commitments. Lately I've just been writing lore for the story universe, fun and quick, but I can't seem to find that thrill I got when I wrote the first book.

Fun tidbit, I got bored over the last winter break and decided to make my own tabletop game. Surprisingly very fun from what my players said. A fun sandbox, space opera, and sci-fi style game.

I've been very tempted to publish, but being my usual realist self, with a minor in pessimism, don't really think people would jump on to read my stuff

In response to Commander: I'd love to read your work! What's it like? I completely understand about not finding the thrill of writing for some reason, and I think I know why. Does work/school tire you out? I get tired every day at school, so I never seem to have the energy to do anything with my stories [except on Sundays]. However, during Christmas break I'll have lots of time, so my energy will come back then. I love my free time. [By the way, when I first saw your username, I thought it was 'Charmander'. ]
In response to NothingWoman: Well, one of the best parts about my books is how complex they are, so re-reading and discovering how all of the puzzle pieces fit together is a must since it's not my job to explain everything! Hmm...well, my Mum was planning on typing out and editing my first book, but since she has fibromialgia [gah, I can't even spell it], she's just been too tired. I think we both need to simplify our lives somehow. I'll sleep on it. By the way, do you happen to like Star Trek at all?

Hi, Kurado! I love Star Trek, but only the original series. I don't know why, but the subsequent ones just didn't give me the same "feel," even though they were probably a lot more realistic than the styrofoam-rock-throwing on Planet Whatever in the original ST.

I also used to love Battlestar Galactica, waaaaaay back when. And Space 1999!! ! Nobody on earth but me remembers that show, LOL.

I love sci-fi movies too...love futuristic "what if?" stuff best of all, with the possible exception being The Matrix (why don't I like that movie series?). I am dying to see the Matt Damon one where he's stranded on Mars, that's coming up but I can't remember what it's called.

One of my favorite faux Sci-Fi movies of all time is "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians."

It's been panned all throughout its history--but I find it soothing somehow. I've always liked that song "Hurray for Santa Claus." I'm not sure--but I think Little Stevie Wonder might have been in it. I know Stevie was in one of the Beach Blanket movies.

I, too, like the Original Star Trek better than the others. The crew in the other Star Treks were...well...efficient. Whereas Captain Kirk was eminently human--so was Dr. McCoy and Scottie.

It's just easier to watch, really.

Spock is definitely my favourite Star Trek character, but mainly because he's on the outside looking in sort of thing, and is constantly baffled by the weirdness of humanity. The emphasis on logic...well, I'd say I'm more literal [ha, pun pun] than logical. One of my favourite episodes is Journey To Babel. I detest the new Star Trek movies, but that's all I'm going to say. I feel like Unikitty from the Lego Movie: 'Stay Positive!! !!'
Styrofoam and rock throwing, yeah, the good old days [which is a really weird thing to say since I wasn't even born then, but my Mum is a 'Trekkie' as well, and she remembers those days fairly well]. I like the second, third, and fourth original series movies best, especially the fourth one because it's so funny and because of the whales.
Oh, and I tried 'pming' you earlier, Nothingwoman, but I've been having technical issues [darned mercury retrograde] so I'm not sure it worked.

Careful there that is a very loaded statement. I hardly mind sharing things with people who are interested, but be warned I can ramble. That's probably part of why I am such a good story teller. of course having a hyper active imagination helps too

I've never written anything because I'm terrible at dialogue. If I do ever write anything it'll probably only have one character or maybe a few, but minimal dialogue.

I participate in Nanowrimo (almost) every year. I've managed to bang out quite a few really horribly-written first quarters of novels.

It's short for (NA)tional (NO)vel (WR)iting (MO)nth.

The jist is, for the month of November, you have to write 50,000 words of a brand-new fictional novel (works out to approx. 1667 words a day for 30 days). They encourage quantity over quality, and no one ever needs to read what you wrote if you don't want them to.

There's a lot of community both on the forums, and in-person (through local meet ups), but you don't need to participate in either if you don't want to. The local meet ups are not so bad, though; a bunch of people hang out at a coffee shop and write together. There's no expectation of conversation or socializing beyond that (at least in my region).

This is what I love about writing lore. You don't have to include any dialogue. It's usually stuff that has already happened and you're just recalling it like you're reading from a book. An the few times you do use dialogue usually just a quote of some importance.

Ex: when asked if he would surrender general hill simply replied "nuts!". After being killed by "friendly" fire his subordinate accepted the terms of surrender.

Just need the power and the will to create

Ive written on and off since I was around 10 years old but never finished anything. I find I am easily distracted and when I re-read things I have written I don't like it and end up deleting it or tearing it up if hand written. My theme has always run towards the supernatural/fantasy fiction as I've been obsessed with vampires since that age.

I would like to have the attention span dedicated enough to write properly though.

Yes, writing is something I've always enjoyed. Right now I'm writing a couple of Choose Your Own Adventure-type books. I also want to write a book about a girl with autism, but am not really sure of what I want the plot to be yet.

I experience something similar to this. I love making up characters and worlds and imagining scenarios that those characters could experience in those worlds, but I don't usually like putting those characters in an actual publishable story. I'd rather be free to let my imagination run wild without those constraints. I do plan to write a book sometime, though, but I'll also leave some characters to roam freely in my head.

And like you, TheNameless, I have trouble finishing things I write. I will start a novel, be really excited about it, write a chapter or so, get stuck on a sentence or plot element, put it aside, get bored with it, start thinking about other things, and never touch it again. Ah, the plight of the writer's life.

Rarely, but yes. I wrote a Sailor Moon/Buzz Lightyear crossover fic last year, whose idea I first hatched in the year 2000.

Yes, I do. I am writing one now in fact. But I mainly write poems and film reviews. I'm okay with short stories, but poems are my strong point in writing, it seems. I would love to try fan fiction someday. That'll be a challenge.

Fan Fiction isn't too difficult, depending on how developed the original content is, but at the very least you don't have to worry about doing a worse job than the cliche fan fics that make most people want to quit life.
