I only go on Amazon to check the existence of a book. I order from Betterworld, Book Depository, WOB or Ebay. The thumbnail pictures there show me what is likely to be a "book" or a real book. I check the year of publication and the publisher.

Yeah, I'm trying to make Amazon my last resort for a book instead of my first resort. I use Wordery, Hive and Foyles a lot. A friend recently sent me a book from Blackwells, who I thought had gone out of business!

Yes. I won't use Amazon for lots of reasons, and I don't like the closing down of the used bookstores I so much enjoyed browsing in.
Betterworld funds literacy programs, and all postage is free, even for transatlantic orders.

And for those who live in the U.K., one can get the book catalogues by post to look through: Postscript and Bibliophile, which helps keep printed catalogues afloat, as well as printed books. And none of their offers are p.o.d.s!
