The death of Rock, good melody, and real instruments. Anyone with a laptop can score a big hit now with some autitune and an annoying synthetic beat, when previously you needed to actually be talented to see success as a musician. And if that wasn’t a big-enough gut punch to fans of real music, many rock bands from the 2000s decided to jump on the trend and hung up their guitars.
Ed Sheeran was one of the only good artists to get big during this decade.
Back in the day you used to need to make the annoying beat manually, but I think it would be an exaggeration to suggest that one needed to be particularly talented to make a three-chord pop song, or at the very least, that playing it is what demonstrated the talent involved.
If you can't make a sequencer or DAW work as a real instrument, that suggests that either you haven't had time to learn to use it competently or that you're maybe not as musically talented as you'd like to believe, it says nothing about whether or not it is a real instrument.
I find attitudes like yours come from people who can maybe passably play an instrument but have never been musicians beyond playing and have yet to come to appreciate the rest of the skill set that comes with being a musician. I used to be one of those people and I'm grateful to have outgrown it.

If you feel useless, just remember the USA took four presidents, thousands of lives, trillions of dollars and 20 years to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.
