By the time I was 16 I didn't even really get the hype around Marilyn Manson anymore.

I mean, he didn't even burn down churches or kill anyone.

He seemed so quaint compared to the Norwegian black metal scene.

The hype surrounding him was so silly. People were obsessed. I even remember his name coming up in sermons.

What’s the Norwegian black metal scene like?

During the '90s it was sorta what American fundies tried to pretend Marilyn Manson was like.

That gif of a guy smiling was the musician behind the band Burzum, as he was sentenced to prison for stabbing another musician to death. (Allegedly Euronymous was also planning to kill Varg...)

Of note: Burzum is a one-man band, he doesn't tour. This is claiming responsibility for some of the churches going up. He was tied to a number of church burnings, as were several other Norwegian black metal musicians. At least 50 churches were set ablaze by people associated with the scene.

This article is a pretty good summary:

Wow! I guess that does put Marilyn Manson in perspective. Well, it should’ve anyway…

Then there's Lent by Autoheart.

If Golden Brown is floating, I'd say Lent is like the consistent grooves on a tyre. The sentences are short, sharp but they also flow and crash into each other like messy thoughts. It makes me think of the wrap function in Excel. The words layer over each other and the overall sound scratches my brain just right. Especially the pack it in take it out to the bin part. Oddly satisfying.

Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard of Autoheart but I really like them. :)
