I definitely agree on the last three - they have their own style, swagger, etc. and it is real introspective stuff that they put out there.

She may have had her degree of introspect in her tracks, that much is true, but I'm really undecided on her in general. I think probably because I've still heard too many things that were contradictory about her husbands 'suicide'.

Have you ever listened to "Live Through This"? It is her best album by far, and if you listen to it five times in a row, you will be assured to fall in love with it.. Though i must say some of the tracks seem like a confession to the 'homicide'. This was released only four days after he killed himself too. There is massive introspection in the lyrics. How she doesn't understand life, or enjoy mother-hood, and a lot of dying. If you get a chance, listen to it to compare it to Kurt's writing. Rumor says she really can't write her own music.. I could go on and on; she is one of my obsessions!

Something else though, I know its more trip-hop than rock, Martina Topley-Bird has a seriously sick voice; not much like I've heard out of anyone else, though I think I'm still a bit more partial to her work with Tricky.

And I checked out a lot everyone's suggestions and I liked a lot of them, it's not the sort of music I thought I'd like and I do like it, which is always cool. I especially liked Bic Runga, Fiona Apple, and Martina Topley. I'm gonna download their music tonight or tomorrow or this weekend.

Just with Martina though, do remember to check out Tricky, particularly the Maxinquay and Pre-Milennium Tension; she tags in with him on almost everything (though I tend to just like the first few tracks on Maxinquay aside from Aftermath, Pre-Millenium is great all the way through and I think her voice is a bit more honed on that).

Why single out females in that genre? Heavy melodic has a lot of production, that is the style that is in fashion. What ever floats your boat, it isn't any less valid. I fully subscribe to the sell out philosophy so i don't really care for cultural snobbery.

One of the reasons I rarely see live shows is that it really bothers me when the singer doesn't sing the way I expect it from the recording.

I love Shirley Manson from Garbage.

I'm very picky about vocalists too, male and female. And I cannot STAND Flyleaf! Bah.

BTW, here's something just funny for anyone who doesn't remember or for who this was before their time. The Swedish band Drain STH, actually started out being a bit of an Alice In Chains knock-off band; and the funny thing is they got it WAY better than Godsmack will ever hope to (then again I don't think they're trying...well...aside from their name, the way the singer tries to sing, gee...don't know...they've got a drummer though at least). I really don't know about this video, not all there but still - she can actually get that Layne Staley swagger on in the vocals, its nuts.

Oftentimes, yes. I can't stand to see live videos of Evanescence because Amy Lee's singing is so disappointing. XD

That said I still love Evanescence's albums (hell, The Open Door is probably my second most favorite album ever), even there is that frankenstein singing. Flyleaf though? Ew.

Evanescence is boring and her voice is boring too. Evanescence...when I think of that name I think of those scented plug ins. What would Evanescence smell like? Nothing. You buy their scent, open it up, take a big whiff to find it smells like nothing. What a waste of money.
