Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. Genre - Fantasy. If you've seen the show the Legend of the Seeker, this book is the sixth in the series the show is based on(btw, Ive been following the tv show. By comparison to the books, its absolutely horrible and has no regard for the character development and relationships or storyline. Although books aside, its "ok"). This perticular book is actually kinda boring and mundane as far as action and romance go(compared to the other books in the series). But somehow I find it strangely fascinating. In this one the main character Richard is held captive by a powerful sorceress in a communist-like town. He kinda lives an ordinary life there for a lot of it. But he has a way of making his sorroundings adapt to him

Also, my avatar is the cover of the book.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! The third installment came out!?

*dashes off to the book store*

The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorn, is one of my favorite books ever.

And I second thedarklight on the Inheritance trilogy by Chrisopher Paolini (I met him, actually)(really cool dude, shorter than you'd think he'd be)

you 2 realize that there is (obviously) going to be a 4th so it would be the Inheritance saga rather than a trilogy?

if you have any theories on book 4, pm me!

The Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion and the Lays of Beriland - JRR Tolkien
again, the Twilight saga and The Host - Stephanie Meyer
Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown
The Icemark Chronicles - not sure who wrote 'em
The Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis
Harry Potter - JK Rowling
Artemis Fowl(up to the end of The Opal Deception, then they started to slip) - Eoin Colfer

I have a lot of favourite books. Often my favourite book is the book I read most recently (assuming I liked the book).

Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (fantasy)
Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer (romance/fantasy)
Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (fantasy)
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (fantasy)
Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman (fantasy)
Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce (fantasy)
The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce (fantasy)
Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce (fantasy)
Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce (fantasy)
The Circle Opens series by Tamora Pierce (fantasy)
Only You Can Save Mankind by Terry Pratchett, Johnny and the Dead by Terry Pratchett, Johnny and the Bomb by Terry Pratchett. These are a series. (fantasy)
Anything that I haven't already mentioned that's by Terry Pratchett.
The Companion's Quartet series by Julia Golding (fantasy)
The Icemark Chronicles series by Stuart Hill, though I haven't read the third one. (fantasy)
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series by Douglas Adams (science fiction)
The Dirk Gently series by Douglas Adams (mystery/supernatural)

There's probably more that I've temporarily forgotten.

Different Seasons~Stephan King. 4 Novellas, a bit more mature then some of his earlier horror. 3 of the novellas have been made into films (Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and Stand By Me)

Notre-Dame de Paris~Victor Hugo Know in North America as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is an incorrect translation. This book was my bible in grades 6-7.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly~Jean-Dominique Bauby. Memoir. Bauby suffered a stroke that left him with Locked in Syndrome- he was completely paralyzed except for his right eyelid. He dictated this book by having an aide read out the alphabet and blinking whenever she said the letter he wants to use. One of the m,ost beautiful books I have ever read.

Hope for the Flowers~Trina Paulson. Essentially a story about 2 caterpillers, but really a story about hope and risk.

Women Who Run With the Wolves:Myths and Legends of the Wild Woman Archtype~Clarissa Pinkola-Estes Essentially a mix of psychology and mythology. I actually had to buy a replacement copy this year, as I wore my first copy out 8O

The Qualities~J. Ruth Gendler She takes various emotions and personality traits (innocence, anger, etc) and writes about them as people.

The Rough Guide to Cult Fiction

House Of Leaves~Mark Z. Danielewski Horror/Fantasy This book is hard to summarize. At it's most basic, the story of a photojournalist and his family who move into a house whose interior is greater then the exterior.

His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife ,and The Amber Spyglass)~Phillip Pullman

The Vampire Chronicles~Anne Rice (Horror).

Into the Wild~ Jon Krakauer

Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Freaks, Teens, and Other Outlaws~Kate Bornstein Not nearly as bleak as you'd think.

Then there's my collections of Frida Kahlo and French Revolution books.
