As far as I know, he was schizophrenic. But as random as his lyrics seem, they have a social naïveteness about them that strike me as Aspie/or Bi-Polar.

i.e.

"And I'm wondering who could be writing this song?"

"Wouldn't you miss me, wouldn't you miss me at all?"

some people are more suscepatible to mental problems due to the effects of drugs such as acid, skunk etc, ie they start off with mild mental disorders which the drugs accentuate, hence the bad press these drugs get.

I think Syd Barrett was one of these people, basically his long term experimentation and consumption fried his gourd.

He was Dx'd with AS? Are you sure its not Schizophrenia?
