I gravitate more towards the post-punk side of punk.

Joy Division and The Sound are the bands who I relate to lyrically out of any other bands past or present.

I also like Gang of Four.

Yes! Oh yes! Up-tempo with power chords gets my vote.
Punk, to me, is the music of the teenagers of the time, whichever decade you think of.
Punk is music that the teenagers can have all to themselves, much to the chagrin of the parents.

They're from Wichita Falls, TX, where I lived for a year.

I've looked up pictures of members of classic punk/hardcore bands and a lot of them now look old and fat. :( They still have the youthful rebellious punk attitude though and that's what counts. lol

I like all different sub-genres of punk

Early (Ramones, Stooges, New York Dolls, The Clash, Johnny Thunders, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, Vibrators, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, The Slits, X-Ray Spex, Undertones, Joan Jett)

Hardcore Punk & Oi! (Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Sham 69, Cock Sparrer, Discharge, Cockney Rejects, Peter & The Test-Tube Babies)

2-Tone & Ska Punk (Specials, Selecter, Bad Manners, The Beat, Madness, Operation Ivy, The Aggrolites, Bosstones)

Celtic/Folk Punk (The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Roughneck Riot, The Mahones, Real McKenzies)

Riot Grrrl (Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Bratmobile)

90s pop-punk bands like Rancid, Green Day & The Offspring

I respect punk bands who explore other genres and sounds. The Clash started out punk but they've experimented in just about every musical genre and so have Chumbawamba*! The Pogues main influences are punk, Irish folk music and country but they've also done a lot of experimentation with other sounds (including hip-hop & rave)

*look em up on wikipedia, there's so much more to them than Tub Thumping!

That's where I live now.

Love punk. Been a big fan of the Dropkick Murphys since I was in high school (hoping to see them in February for the second time), Rancid, Operation Ivy, Tiger Army, Agnostic Front, Millencolin, Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls, The Clash, Social Distortion, New Bomb Turks, The Gadjits...

I was in a heavily punk-influenced band when I was in college as well, mostly as a drummer.

I’m a fan of post-punk (Joy Division and Killing Joke in particular are 2 of my all time favourite artists), some crust punk (Amebix, Doom, Iskra) and bits of hardcore punk every now and then (D.R.I, early Suicidal Tendencies, T.S.O.L, Discharge etc.) but in general I’m more of a metal fan.

Nonetheless here are a few gems

Oh, and some more punk oriented grindcore can be quite good as well

Been getting big into Darkthrone. They went from black metal to some kind of black metal/crust punk fusion and then into pure crust punk. I prefer the latter two styles to their pure black metal stuff.

Darkthrone's last 4 albums have indeed been killer but I have to also credit the unholy trio of ABITNS, UAFM and Transilvanian Hunger for getting me into black metal.

Yep.

Although I keep trying to develop a wider taste in music (even within punk), I can't bring myself to do that until I've listened to every Bad Religion song until I get sick of it, which will be never. I have over 100 of their songs downloaded/bought, listen to many more, still keep finding new ones, and haven't gotten sick of any of them.

Music that forces even me to expand my vocabulary is a beautiful thing.
