Who said anything about being plain? The track's very individual, but essentially it's a very simple production. It's bunch of perc hits with grooves applied and a vocal sample. The track stands out, not the production.
Eh, I dunno, It sounds like the producer just did an outstanding job in equalizing the stuff which is why it sounds so realistic to both of us I think.
Just because there has been a whole lot of processing doesn't mean that the track can't sound simple to the average listener.
Usually for the track to be appealing to the listener, it requires a lot of eq'ing or just a good taste and skill in sampling.
