The Minutemen's cover version is from a live acoustic public access TV performance from 1985 that I found on YouTube. Here's the whole set they played in case anyone's interested:

'My Girl', performed by Otis Redding... Better than the Temptations' original??
It was recorded some months after the Temptations put out their 'My Girl'. I have to say I'm partial to Otis here. He sounds more raw, where David Ruffin (great vocalist in his own right) sounds a lot more smooth and slick. Otis' version stays true to the original in terms of arrangement, and I think that that only emphasizes Otis' vocal prowess and ability to add his own flair- he has his own timing in delivering his lines. Check it out. It's the same song, but it kind of becomes something different if you listen closely.

Pretty sure this one will be mentioned in this topic already, but anyway.
Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

Cover by Jeff Buckley, imo best version

Nine Inch Nails - Hurt (don't listen if you're feeling depressed)

Johnny Cash version, last song he recorded before his death. Not sure which version I prefer.

Dolly Parton - Jolene

The White Stripes cover, imo best version
