Lol, most of the 'punk' I like is from '60s.

In this version of punk rock the colors are grim and somber - no day-glo here!

I was thinking it was about time for some psychedelic punk.

Okay, I love you. I have the Siouxsie & The Banshees cover of Gun, but I'd never been able to find the original! Thanks' mightily.

Okay, arguably punk... but here you go...

I always feel a bit guilty for not liking Siouxsie overly much, seeing as I'm a girl and stuff I feel obliged to. I think it's the general lack of rawness she has (in the image and the music). I'm so butch.

I love pretty much all the music that inspired her, though.

I don't listen to the DK's all that often, but I had to post this one. For anyone not familiar with this song or the story behind it, I guess the Dead Kennedys were invited to perform at the 1980 Bay Area Music Awards (they're from San Francisco), and this is one of the things they played. Every aspect of the song is a satire - the lyrics, the music (notice how they slyly slip in "My Sharona"), even Jello Biafra's cheesy comments to the crowd after the song. If someone were to ask me what I think punk rock is "about," the lyrics to this song sort of summarize it better than anything else I can think of.

While we're on the subject of "substantive" music, this next song has some of the best lyrics I've heard in punk rock:

"Provisional" by Fugazi

Somewhere in these private minds,
The last one comes just in time to
Clear out the chambers and sew up the lips,
That's the price to pay for hoping every slip's not a slide.
In other words, not to get it wrong,
It's pointless to walk when it's past time to run.
Secured under the weight of watchful eyes,
Lulled to sleep under clear expansive skies.
Somewhere in these prying hearts
Competing histories tear us apart
We hope we won't get what we deserve,
Hide behind the targets in front of all the people we serve.

It's funny, I'm posting all this heavy punk stuff, but I'm really such a mild-mannered person. I'm an aesthete - haha!

That guy cracks me up. It's a shame it's not "cool" to be that direct anymore. Well DK's were never cool but you know what I mean.
