Why Metal probably isn't your cup of tea.
Could it just be aspie stuff that makes me not like it? Because some music that people here describe as metal, such as metallica, Blue Oyster Cult, maybe a couple others, I can deal with.
It isnt sudden loud sounds that upset me. It is just certain types of sounds that make me want to jab a pencil in my eyeball
Metallica is metal through and through. Screamo is emo with screamed vocals, and it isn't even metal. However, people often mislabel Metalcore, which is metal, as Screamo.

Fair enough. Some people like the extreme side of metal, some don't. Screamo is an absolute joke of a music genre, don't compare it to metal.

If found that some Scandinavian metal (not black metal) is quite melodic, especially those bands who go heavy on the synths.
It isn't being un-melodic that I don't like, it's when it all sounds exactly the same. I like music to have a mixture of soft and loud. When it reaches 110% intensity 30 seconds into the song and stays that way for 5-10 minutes I get tired of it and want to move on to something else.

I wouldn't consider metalcore metal, if it was metal there would be no need for 'core' to be in the name as that has more to do with the genre hardcore than metal...its metal influenced but I doubt I will ever see it as metal.

Most screamo baloney gets lumped with metal, that's why said criticism you listed happens.
this is true.
And there are some good and a lot of incredibly awful "screamo" bands as well. Whether all hardcore or punk with screamed vocals is inferior to metal is again a matter of personal taste.
I don't think I said anything about anything being inferior, more that screamo has more of the screaming vocals many people find obnoxious than metal. I can't say there are no good bands in that genre, but I doubt I'd have much interest in them as I don't enjoy that form of music very much.

Metalcore sounds nothing like Hardcore, at least not the Hardcore I know, it's a lot closer to metal than it is to Hardcore. It sounds like Post-Hardcore, but not Hardcore. It's more metallic than Crossover Thrash, which many people still considered metal. I say if anything it's more of a fusion of Death Metal and Pop nowadays than Hardcore and Metal. Anyway, Thrash Metal itself is a fusion of Hardcore and Metal.

And Death Metal sounds nothing like Traditional Heavy metal. Metalcore is something that came from metal influence and hardcore so perhaps its sort of its own fusion genre but it doesn't really sound like metal so not sure where people get the impression its specifically a genre of metal rather than a metal influenced genre. If I am wrong about it being at all related to hardcore why is it called metal'core'?
Also Thrash metal is not a fusion of hardcore and metal and neither metal nor hardcore, its punk influenced heavy metal......just general punk influence not hardcore specifically. Essentially during the time glam metal was popular a few bands wanted to put the metal back in metal cause a lot of those bands where selling out so they decided to take some example from punk music which was faster, high energy ect......so that is where thrash metal came from. Unless my reaseach is wrong which it could be.

It doesn't really matter what it is. I've heard it and I don't like it. It's sounds like bland pop music with metal and hardcore guitar styles added purely to make it sound "heavy". Reminds me of Nickleback trying to do early Metallica. Zzzzzzz....

I agree for the most part. Metal has more shouting, growling, and shrieking than outright screaming. I'm picky as to what kind of "screams" I can tolerate and that rules out my ability to enjoy a lot of music but I'm not going to just bash an entire genre as "nonsense" because of it. I can find plenty of music of similar style minus the vocals that I do enjoy. I just think LexingtonDeville's comments are a bit on the snobbish side to completely dismiss an entire genre.

There's nothing snobbish about my comments whatsoever. All i said was the MEDIA have a severe problem in telling apart screamo and metal. Wikipedia has lumped Sylosis in the screamo genre, when there is nothing remotely screamo about them.

My secondary cup of tea, classical music is my favourite.
Metal + classical? That's a wonderful combination to like.
My brother used to only listen to Kate Bush or Metalica, which I always thought was odd, but neat that he liked such opposite things.
My favorite musical styles are some type of folk/indie rock/Americana/alt country--I'm not sure how to define it, and I'm likely getting it all wrong. But bands like "Murder By Death," "Grant Lee Buffalo," "Magazine," "Nick cave and the Bad Seeds." Then in the complete opposite direction I love "dir en grey," which has a lot of shrieking and metal and such. I have a really hard time with loud noises, but for some reason when I listen to them it's almost like I hit this threshold, or a type of trance, or something where nothing bothers me at all.

Kate Bush and Metallica probably aren't nearly as opposite as you think they are.

avenged sevenfold is to me at least a good example of an evolving metal band personally i don't like the screaming that is not understandable i've liked almost everything since waking the fallen which was the first album of theirs with actual singing and i've always found them instrumentally interesting
err sorry this wasn't about a7x that's actually just my favorite metal band
