I'm not of any religion, and yet I apparently write like Tolkien (although I try to avoid the long descriptions Tolkien has become infamous for). It'd be interesting how that affects the final result, to me.

Do you mean the final result of your writing? You would not need to be of any religion to write like Tolkien.

Meh, just wondering if it was of any influence. What's his writing style anyway? I don't really seem to notice those sorts of things.

What question were you answering? Or were you agreeing with what someone else said?

It was a reply to the thread topic.

Of course, how foolish of me (and I created the thread!)

So I guess now the question is: What to talk about?

Personally, I want to know how people feel about the gags in the movies (such as "Not the beard!!" in Moria, Legolas sliding down the stairs in Helm's Deep and Legolas taking down the Mumakil with Gimli saying "That still only counts as one!")

I thought they were a generally nice touch. (Granted, the sliding down the stairs thing got on my nerves, simply because of the sheer impossibilty of the feat.) People do joke around though, and if you read the novels, you'll notice that Legolas and Gimli occasionally participate in light hearted gags like that.

I like their kill count game. In the Extended version on TTT, you get the results of the Helm's Deep kills by the two. Legolas gets 42 (meaning of life!), whereas Gimli gets 43. Yay Gimli!!

I'm realitivly sure that they have the same count in the books. (It's been a few years.) Accuracy, hey?

Well, what happens after is pretty funny. After hearing the final count, Legolas shoots an arrow into the Uruk Gimli is sitting on and declares "43!"

"He was already dead!"
"He was twitching!"
"He was twitching, because he's got my axe embedded in his NERVOUS SYSTEM!!" and he shakes his axe which is implanted halfway through the Uruk's head!

Dunno if they knew about nervous systems back then beyond a system of Fell beast screeches, though!
