^^ Nice. If I were deejaying, I'd segue from those right into this - not only because of the melodic structure, but also this specific arrangement, and the mood. (Resolve those chords :-) )

This song comes from "Les Parapluits de Cherbourg" for which the score was written by Michel Legrand; it was almost entirely sung. Who'd'a thunk Sting...? :-)

Edit in: and if I didn't know Chris Botti was a blond American, I'd think he was Miles Davis.

Kelby, I promised you some Ritenour etc. - I have to run, but I'll be back later and will put up at least a few of them.

This is an amazing thread. Thank you for creating it! And reviving it.

(Edit in: nah, gotta leave a bouncy happy thing before I go - this is one I literally grew up on and used to whistle, except not the embellishments.)

Here beginneth Captain Fingers: he's as young in this first vid as I was the first time I heard this piece!
The camera work on this is a little frustrating - they pull back or cut away when you want to watch the fingering. Sorry.

And a nice hour of more recent performance, with Dave Grusin. Rather better camera work here.

Also, I'd forgotten, I bookmarked a couple vids of Lee Ritenour performing with Mike Stern, so here's one - this is one of Stern's compositions, clearly influenced by Pat Metheny, incredibly ethereal.

Here's Mike Stern again - this little beauty struts and slinks all over the stage (or studio). Bass is kind of suppressed in this recording, which is a shame. The pyrotechnics start about 4 minutes in. (There's concert footage of this as well, but it's a more elaborate arrangement, and I wanted to put up the pyrotechnic one first :-) )

This is the first thing I ever heard of his... hooked in about 20 seconds. More pyrotechnics.

tossing this one in just for fun:

another of my favorites, and I'll stop here: this one is just smartalecky :-)

Hi, I dont know if this happens to others, but, at times, the posted videos are invisible to me/on my laptop. I don't know if it is a browser issue, or other, as I have tried three different browsers to no avail. Thanks for the additional posts. I look forward to returning, here!

Thanks for answering my inquiry, HighLlama. It is apparent, that I have much to learn about Framk Zappa. I'm so pleased to know you enjoyed the the pieces I shared!

You're welcome, and thank you, as well, Esmerelda. No pressure or rush to post the Lee Ritenour songs. I will be looking forward to listening, when you put them up.

~~Have a nice evening

Oh dear! which ones can't you see? if you use the "quote" button you may be able to get the URL for them; if that doesn't work, I'll pull the URLs and put them all into a single post, without doing the [youtube] business.

I use Firefox, latest version, and these are all straight from Youtube. I just checked and they're all showing. I have a laptop - are you using an iPad or smartphone or? Never mind, I see you said laptop. Huh. Weird.

(could be a buffer problem, if they still call it that. A memory problem. It does take a while for a page full of vids to load all the vids for me - and my gizmo is kinda souped up, it was a retirement gift.)

Also I notice that the site goes offline for me pretty much every day at midnight, and can stutter a bit during the wee small hours. Don't know if that's a local problem with my wifi or ISP, or a site maintenance thing. Could contribute.

edit in: oh goodness, I put up three Ritenour vids at the 5:49 post, so clearly they didn't show up at all.
Here are the URLs:
the first one, which is Etude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puFaQv8nxLI
the second one, which is the concert with Dave Grusin - both of them older: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUt_pnutRtI
the third one, which is Lee Ritenour and Mike Stern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYlORDHAwXc

Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to put the URL under the vid from now on, so you have the link if you can't see the vid. "It's tired and I'm getting late" so I'll pull all the other URLs for the stuff I posted today, some time tomorrow, and put them all in one post, before I post anything else.

Esmerelda, that is very kind of you, however, I don't want you to go through the trouble, since, I know it is a temporary issue, which always resolves itself, eventually. I will be happy to return, tomorrow. You are so nice. Thank you for wanting to be of help to me. Pleasant dreams to you...

Hi Kelby,

Forgot to mention that I was able to access the vids you posted and enjoyed them very much...

This site goes down pretty regularly at midnight Eastern US time, and it's fratchetty for awhile after that, so - just in case that's your best window for stopping in, I'm putting the rest of the URLs here from yesterday. It will take about five minutes, no great effort - I just open a second window and drop quotes in, then edit them.

Chris Botti, trumpet; Sting, vocals; Michel Legrand: What are you doing for the rest of your life?

Clifford Brown, Max Roach: Joy Spring (original): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnK6OHPQZbA

Mike Stern:
You Never Know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKwAPRWZeow
Jigsaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfCxYrF1jGI
Another Way Around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiEj2s4jF50
Lose the Suit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_Uof2EbeYU

(I checked these and they should all work.)

Hi Llama,

I'll be back later to check out the items you posted. Looking forward to it.

I love this Eric Dolphy Album! Thanks for posting it! In case you would find it of interest, and haven't discovered it, as of yet, there is a very, well done, documentary on Eric Dolphy. I will try to fetch and post it, here.

Listening to Mike Stern, presently... Thank you, again, for the links! Currently, I am able to see posts. It was extremely helpful to be able to utilize the links you posted, last night, however. I'm glad to know that it wasn't a big deal to post them. I am a big fan of Max Roach, btw. I need to catch up on both, yours and HighLlama's posts. I, often, like to play a round in the games, after work, thus, it took me a bit, to get back here, this evening. Nice to find all of the new tracks you, both, have shared. Thank you, again !

Perhaps we are on opposite sides of the country, then, as WP seems to go a bit haywire at around, 9:00 PM, for approximately, 20 (or so) minutes on the evenings that I've been round.

edit- Indeed, we are in fact, on opposite sides of the country, as you did mention 'Eastern US Time', and that initially went straight over my head, somehow.
