I have taken up the Baritone ukulele...which is tuned just like a guitar but only has the bottom 4 strings. I likes it.

I have a red/sunburst Godin Sd/Xt as an electric guitar. It looks like the one shown below. It is often described as an hybrid between a Fender Stratocaster and a Gibson Les Paul.

My amp is just plain bad thought. It is a 30W Kustom (manufactured in Taiwan I think). I plan to invest about $1000 for something else. Maybe I'll buy a Marshall 2x12'' box with an independant processor. Other ideas are welcome.

I also have a nice acoustic Seagull made in cedar with a cutaway and a black Takamine.

I've been playing acoustic since about 8 years ago and electric since about 6 years ago.

What kind of music are you playing and are you playing just at home or out in the world?

I'm not very knowledgeable about amps yet, but from what I gather it makes a difference what you're wanting to play... where you're gonna play... how the set-up is going to be mic'd, whether or not you're going to chain an amp and then a cab together... etc.
I'll bet there's some folks here who can help you out.

It seems like no matter which brand people talk about, there's definite likes and dislikes in each.

I lucked out and got a CRATE head and cab that are actually more than I need for playing at home, but for $100 I couldn't do better than what I got.

I would like a nice 2X10/12 Fender or some other classic in case I ever get good enough to play outside of home... even if it's with friends.
I'll keep the crate for my wannabe metal moments, and get something else for the classic rock/blues music I like to play.

Oooh. I've taken lessons for about 6 or so years.

I had a $100 beginner guitar for about 4 of those years before I talked my mom into getting me a nice Gibson :P

I suck at playing though. Of course I don't practice as much as I should... xD But I just don't seem to have the coordination.

I think I might be better suited for piano or something...

I play a bit of everything, but mostly blues and punk rock. I like distortion, but I'm not a fan of the metal sound created with FX pedals... bands I like generally don't use any pedals.

I don't play outside my house, but I'd still like something that can play loud (louder than a 30W anyways).

You should get a Marshall! I play the same kind of thing and that's what I use.

I'm also looking for something that could be used to record myself and eventually write complete songs (with a program like ProTools). My guitar teacher can get me a nice processor for about $250 (he worked at many music stores and can have bargains). He has one himself and can record his students with ProTools. He also has the whole stuff plugged throught tavern speakers, and althought I never really messed with it, it sounds good most of the time.

I mostly use distortion when I play, and I'd like to have distortion similar to those bands : Fugazi, Bad Religion, The Pixies, The Who. I'm pretty sure all of those used Marshall amps. I also enjoy stuff like Led Zeppelin, Cream, Deep Purple or other bands qualified as blues/rock.

I plan to invest about $1000, so this leaves me around $750 to buy the cabinets. Maybe I'll get 2x12 or two 1x12 Marshall which I'll place at different places in my appartment.

They thought they weren't learning anything useful just becuase they were learning technical stuff and the basics first. That is the attitude which has given birth to millions of terrible guitarists, as well as a handful of great ones.

Yep I play guitar, although not as well as I should. I have just recently been kicked out of my band... which I started ... nice.

Just as well, I wasn't having a good time. I really could not communicate my ideas to the others, they just looked at me with blank faces. They would just carry on and churn out their repetitive riffs again. Yeah I sound bitter, thats because I am.

I'm learning piano too and recently got back into it to play some cheesy xmas songs. Its going well.

I have been playing for over 4 years now. I'm not that bad. Good enough to be in a band at least, but I'm not better than many serious players. Mainly the people that just do it to show off I'm better than because they aren't serious anyway.
