I've been working my way through Xelebe's and Belfast's lists but the funny thing is that the ones on Xelebe's list are ( almost all ) too pure/hard machine/electro for my taste

I admit, my mind is relaxed with sounds that are purely inorganic.

As I said in another thread, I've worked with Zombie Girl - but don't like the band's style all that much - too burlesque for my taste.

Really? Still, that's awesome. What did you do with them?

I'm not SUPER into them--I agree about the burlesqueness--but if I hear a song by them play on the dance floor it's fun to dance to. ^_^

Did some unreleased studio work with them.

I second MissConstrue's suggestion of AphexTwin-"Agespolis", "Xtal", "Analog Bubblebath".

Again I recommend material from the "Echoes" program (per another member's suggestion)
http://www.echoes.org/
& site for "Music from the Hearts of Space" show.
http://www.hos.com/
Also used to listen to "Musical Starstreams" back in late 80's.
http://www.starstreams.com/

Do you (to ouinon) like "new age"-y stuff ? Pat Metheny Group, William Ackerman, David Arkenstone, Kitaro, Andrew White, Paul Averganios (sp ?), Andreas Vollenweider (usually involves a harp), Liquid Mind, A Positive Life ? (last two are more trancey/hypnotic). Do you go for the more acoustic (real instruments) stuff ? That would take one out of the "electronica" genre/theme of this thread...

More (non-singing !) tracks from tv channel:
Future Sound of London "Papua New Guinea"
Patchwork "Flughund"
Grey Area "Pure and Simple"
Dub Alchemist "O'Clock"
Arno Cost & Arias "Magneta" (sounds bit like the disco synth of the band Daft Punk)
Som Novo "Reminds me of Her"
David Hoffman "Pops"
Jeff Sova "Panic Attack"
Fragile State "600 Bliss"
Sounds from the Ground "Triangle"
Black Mighty Wax "Blue Mambo"
Daft Punk "Veridis Quo"
Bill Laswell "Killer Bandit Blues"
A Forest Mighty & Black "Walking Freak"
Dubtribe Sound System "Memory Part 1" (first heard on aforementioned radio program, Music from hearts of Space). Has some echoing diffuse voices, though.

There's another Music Channel I tune into sometimes, "Soundscapes"-
Thierry David "Rain on Me"
2002 "Journey Within"
Shakatura "Parachute"
Richard Bone "Part Two" from "Vesperia" (2007)
Bruce Kaphan "Back to the Light"
John Serrie "Valley of the Nacoochee" (weird name, great song)
Tangerine Dream "Underwater Twilight" (1986)

Has voices, but I'll mention it anyway for general info. (underappreciated seminal work) : Brain Eno & David Byrne album "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" from back in the 80's. Isn't strictly electronica but has all sorts of odd samples & is a precursor to many subsequent styles.

I like the group Plaid but I mostly prefer the more melodic sound of hybrid rock/electronica groups. I also like dark ambient. I'm not a huge fan of pure drum-and-bass.

I do like newer trance or whatever kind of stuff like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, etc, but it's not stuff I listen to often. What I do listen to very very often (as in like 70-80% of the time probably) is eurodance, eurobeat, and italodisco and similar electronic influenced pop music like that. It's cheesy, sure, but I love it. I also enjoy oddly, some of the newer electronic sort of stuff, too, like Lara McAllen, stuff like that. There's some trance I like, but it's hard for me to really get into it. I sort of don't have the attention span to listen to lots of trance, I used to have it on a lot while driving, though, just 1 hour trance sets by my friend/DJ Matthew J. Bentley. I like happy hardcore, too, but I don't like jumpstyle or anything besides happy hardcore with love song vocals, I can't stand happy hardcore about like, partying or whatever.

Uhm, what else. Yellow Magic Orchestra and Telex. Both very old electronic music makers from the late 1970s. Pretty crazy sounding music, especially YMO, YMO is one of my favorite groups ever.

I would argue electronica isn't a genre at all due to it encompassing such a large amount of smaller subgenres, each distinct enough to be considered unique genres in themselves. You can't compare trip-hop, lounge, ambient or the more recent rising genre of dubstep to one another any more than you would compare americana and gaelic folk just because they both use acoustic instruments.

As far as my own personal listening habits go, the most recent notable electronica artists that have left lasting impressions on me have been Crystal Castles, Portishead, Glasser, Fever Ray and MIA.
