That's the improtant thing. Don't care what anyone says is the attitude.

But still, his music is commercial. I prefer non-commercial music, there's much more sense in it and it makes mind clear. And this attitude of "not caring a fig" and being different this way is commercial, first of all. The sense of his lyrics goes secondary anyway. But it's hard to be noticed if you're not outrageous or pervert, people notice the appearance first. It's a pity that the most of the music fans consider the behaviour to be most important then the texts.

I'd say his singles are somewhat accessible (commercial is still a too strong term IMO). But many of his album tracks are very non-commercial. Listen to for example Cryptorchid, GodEatGod, Minute of Decay, ... Only Mechanical Animals is really accessible to a wide audience, and even that's a narrow one.

Marilyn Manson is one of my favorite musicians. He may also do music that sometimes is a bit commercial but why should I give a s***? I mean I like his music, his messages and how he does what he wants to do and that is what counts :)

when he first got big i was young and catholic, and that's when all the religious people were all up in arms about his "satanic" music, so i didn't listen to him. i forgot about him after that and just heard some of his stuff again last summer and discovered that i like his music. he's a very strange man, but very intelligent. i like interviews with him because they're generally interesting and much more fun to watch than your average celebrity.

Never really got into Manson. Mainly because American Heavy Metal sucks compared to European Metal.

Isn't that a bit too much generalised? There's some great bands in every corner of the world if you dig deep enough.

Personally, being into Middle Eastern culture, I was surprised by the amount of good hardrock and metal bands in the Middle East.

Manson also is not like most other US metal bands, he has something that sets him apart from most other American acts in the genre.

NIN has some similarities with Manson (although not that much neither) while Metallica is totally different than Marilyn Manson.

on another forum someone stated that The Beautiful People would be about Marilyns view of organised christianity and how they always force their dogmas on others. I never interpretated the song that way, do you think it would be the right interpretation or not?

They got my attention when I first saw that strange and nightmarish video Sweet Dreams!! !

I loved it, it actually sent chills in me like it really was a nightmare not to mention the music was great. I started listeing to a lot of their older stuff and loved it because of that certain shock that wasn't exactly overrated as most bands try to be.

I kind of got sidetracked with their newer music b/c it just got meh...not as mystique though not a total disaster. I think it wasn't until their music got too much into the mainstream as many talented artists and bands do when they get really recognized into the media. They seem to lose that individual perosna little by little and it's that unique persona that makes a good band regardless of what "genre" of music they fit into.

Ashame commercial businesses have taken more control over artistic endeavor.

Anyway that's my opinion over Marlyn Manson. I don't usually go for anything that's cool because they're either goth or "what's in" even as a teen I could never understand that. But I guess some people love what sells to them minus their own individual preference of what REALLY appeals to them rather than what SHOULD appeal to them.

<music rant> God I miss napster, if anyone knows of any music stations on some sites that don't have all that "What's Popular" or "What's in", I'd like to know.

By definition there is no right interpretation, cause you're interpreting it how you see it.

I do not like Manson or his music at all. Absolutely awful. Not the worst musician I have ever heard but in the top ten.

The interpretation of The Beautiful People could be right though, although depending on your angle...

And I dont want you, and I dont need you
Dont bother to resist, I will beat you
Its not your fault that you are always wrong
The weak ones are there to justify the strong
The beautiful people, the beautiful people
Its all relative to the size of your steeple
You cant see the forest from the trees
You cant smell your own s**t on your knees

There is no time to discriminate
Hate every motherf**ker thats in your way

It could indeed be about a totalitarian regime or a dogma, assuming the one speaking is the one forcing his believes on others assuming he is the beautiful superior being talking to those who are -from his perspective- always wrong and weak. "You cant see the forest from the trees" could be about blindly believing without seeing the many contradictions in the religion, while the steeple could refer to the position of power over the followers used by those in charge.

It is only one of several possible interpretations though. But it would fit in the concept of the Antichrist Superstar album. Some Nietzsche esque lines as well in this song.

Also, I never got what is so creepy about the videos to the Beautiful People or Sweet Dreams. Really creepy video art by Marilyn would be The Nobodies IMO, that has something eerie, deeply eerie about it. Sweet Dreams is a bit unsettling but I dont really get what was so bad that it needed to be censored.
