Of course you can ask, and no forgiveness is needed! They aren't synaesthesia smells but rather literal flashbacks.
Holmes: A little hamburger place where I used to go with my best friend CDW when I was about 12. It had this song on the jukebox and I smell the food, the fresh spring air coming through the door as patrons entered, and even my shampoo and lipgloss from the time. Yellow tables. Red mesh baskets of food. Greasy fries with salt. My friend's bubblegum. Everything. I can't even push "play" on the song because it would hurt too much, but I experience this anyway.
Rafferty: My childhood home with my mother cleaning. The lemon scent of her cleaning products, especially the soap I used to cleanse the sink (which I loved doing). The smell of a carpet freshly cleaned, when it smells like the warm air from the vacuum. My stuffed Grover toy. Chlorine from our swimming pool, and wet beach towels.
No, I don't have strong sensory memories at all
