I was messing around with my pastels. Not particularly proud of this, but it's better than anything else I've made with them so far.

I thought it was amazing. Did you use soft pastels?

I used oil pastels. Pretty easy to blend, but you really have to be careful with the darker colors.

I love the duck.

Thanks. How do you blend the oil pastels? I have been told cooking oil and q-tips on small doses works, but it was messy and oily and splotchy to me.

That is so true. I look here at least once a day! :D

Like I said on deviantART, water helps.

I look here multiple times a day. :)

I'm gonna bust out my oils and see if I can make something I like.

Thanks!

A friend on deviantART requested this. I don't normally draw any characters from this show. :P

Here, have some fanart:

[img][800:783]http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/100/3/8/carter_is_oblivious_by_justanothercecilfan-d6142kl.jpg[/img]

Those of you who play "Fire Emblem: Awakening" will understand this.

If you have never played it, I will explain:

The guy on the left is the avatar, whose appearance is determined by the player. (This is how I made him look. There's also a female option.) The girl behind the bushes is Tharja (who I got my username from), and she likes to stalk the avatar (who I named Carter).

So Carter is oblivious to the fact that Tharja is following him.

Colored this with Copic markers and smoothed it out in GIMP:

Guinevere the Nubian Queen of Camelot

Apparently there's a TV series going on which portrays Guinevere, consort of the legendary King Arthur, as a biracial woman. It almost certainly isn't faithful to the original mythology, but it did inspire me to draw a Nubian interpretation of the character. I like to imagine that King Arthur met her while prospecting for quality swords in Meroe and brought her back to Britain as his bride. Ergo, her costume here combines elements of both ancient Nubian and Celtic cultures.

Smilodon fatalis is the iconic saber-toothed cat which roamed North America during the Pleistocene Ice Age. It probably used its namesake stabbing canines to deliver stabbing bites to the necks of large game after wrestling it to the ground. This specialization in bigger prey selected for a stockier and stronger build than contemporary big cats, but may have doomed it to extinction once the American megafauna began to decline at the Pleistocene's end.

I gave this particular Smilodon a gray coat with white spots to make him blend better in snowy environments, but the cats actually ranged all the way down to South America.

Do other artists have sensory issues with some media?I like the look of pastels but can't stand they way they feel, or the sensation of them on the paper sometimes.I would use them with a tissue wrapped on them.I like acrylic, water color, pencil and colored, watercolor pencil.
And my pencil has to be sharp,I hate the feel of a dull one.
When I was a kid I took all the wrappers of my crayons because I couldn't stand the feel of the paper against my fingers.
Just wondering.

I actually like the texture that oil pastels and soft pastels have, but I agree on the dull pencil statement. I usually prefer to use a mechanical pencil unless I have access to a pencil sharpener.

Yeah, I hate dull pencils, too. Not only do they feel weird, but they make it harder for me to draw...

Oh, and here, have another picture:

I agree that I can't stand dull pencils, I just cant work in detail as well either. I do love how soft pastels feel, though I have stained a lot of clothes wiping my hands while I use them!

here is another graphite piece. I was feeling rather silly/tired and was like, I can't draw a princess today its JUST NOT GONNA WORK. This came out. I drew the mouth and the word first, so the background took more time, working around them.

Delicious
