I once worked with a woman named Julia and she HATED this song. I asked her why and she said because throughout her life when people learned her name, she'd lost count of how many times she'd hear: "Oh, like the Beatles' song!". She had a very dry and sarcastic wit that I enjoyed.

She did turn me on to Carl Orff and Carmina Burana, so I'm grateful to her for that.

It's hard to think of another song where the singer so passionately equates his wife with his mother. It's one of Lennon's most powerful songs.
