speaking of "no highs-just lies, no lows-must be bose"- why do so many bose owners get downright medieval when anybody dares to express a a non-salutory opinion of their bose equipment? enquiring minds want to know.

Have you seen the price of Bose equipment? That would probably explain why these psycho's wouldn't like you dissing their gear. Don't get me wrong though, home theater in a box gear is really good stuff because each speaker is tuned to work with each other perfectly, but not the best choice for folks like us.

But I love deep clean punchy bass. But none of my gear handles that so I just focus on getting high's and mids to sound as best as possible.

you could google Decware- they sell plans for DIY subwoofers, including The Imperial Horn which can almost blow the walls down.

i read in one of my old High Fidelity magazines, about a home audio hobbyist who made his own uber subwoofer by taking a 55-gallon oil drum, mounting a wooden baffle atop it, then mounting a 15" woofer in the baffle, then constructing a welded coiled metal horn [can't remember if it was exponential or hyperbolic] approx. 32' in total length, starting at the woofer-in-barrel-enclosure in his garage, and terminating in the wall of his listening room. he invited guests over to show off the incredible "invisible" bass from his new subwoofer, but the game was shot when one of the guests absent-mindedly put his hand through the wallpaper concealing the mouth of the subwoofer horn. the wallpaper had acted as a giant drone or passive re-radiator.
