I do like one band called Refused (Swedish hardcore punk). Some of their songs fuse jazz among other things with the genre which is pretty interesting.

Flipper - now that's some good lyrics like "Isn't life a blast, it's like living in the past, I go downtown to do my shopping, and I work in suburbia, and I say hahahahaha hohohohoho..."

God, I love Flipper. I'm a Californian girl, I remember the 80's and their kind of nihilism was just pitch-prefect for the time. I remember seeing "Flipper Rules, OK?" graffiti, and loved it. It was so Californian. I then shoplifted a cassette copy of Generic from a record store by my house. I was in 7th grade, so that was 1984 or so. I was blown away. They were the first punk/hardcore band I "got." At the time, they were seen doing something so far different that it was almost "anti-punk." They even said they weren't punk. But they were punk.

Yeah definintly, but more modern. I'm also an anarchist, but focus more on the social aspects of anarchy. I am a big fan of Gilman-scene bands. I like:

NOFX
Lagwagon
The Ataris (Pre-2002)
Bad Astronaut
Operation Ivy
The Mr T Experience
[spunge]
Rancid
Mad Caddies
Green Day (Pre-Insomniac)
Less Than Jake
Big D and the Kids Table
Catch 22

Streetlight Manifesto

And a few more classic punk songs-- couple great UK "art punk" bands of the very early 80's,:

And then the Skids--I will always love Stuart Adamson (he's the guitarist here--he later formed Big Country). The Skids were a different sort of punk band for their time:

Yeah, I remember them from the 80's in name only, though. I didn't hear their music until much later.

But if we're going start digging up old Discord bands, here's by are my favorite, Rites of Spring:

I used have such a crush on Guy Picciotto, He's kind of Aspie-ish, I think that's why. I'm glad he went on with Fugazi:

Not bad for a more recent band. As you can tell, I'm quite a bit older so i don't get intot eh newer stuff, but I know there's good bands out there.

Back in the 80's I lived in Galveston, TX, and you know what famous punk rock video was shot about 25 miles up the road from me, in Clear Lake, TX? This one (and I''m not kidding--that's why there's an armadillo and an oil rig in the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx-277MRYuM

When I was in high school, we used to go find that exact spot where they shot it, which got increasing harder year after year as Clear Lake succumbed to sprawling suburbanization. It looks nothing like in the video today.

I actually was in a burlesque show the other day where all we used was the music of The Cramps. So stellar!
