i have to admit most of her popular songs are pretty silly with not much lyrical weight/context/ meaning for me to truly appreciate. however, i do believe that she is an artist, a performer who will go down one way or another as a legend from these years. her latest song has a pretty strong message and of course has only attracted more discussion about her and her "ulterior" motives which i find that most people are just spinning their wheels on the same s**t repeatedly. so personally im on the fence about her. on one hand, she will definitely have a loyal fan base for the rest of her years, and on the other hand, others will never care or want to care to hear anything about gaga ever again. opinions are just like a**holes, everyone has one. its all good or its all gaga.

Hipsters say "that's funny" because hipster humor is the kind you silently appreciate with a chuckle.

I haven't read this whole topic, I've only perused it, but I'd like to say this:
Different genres of music have different purposes. Dance is for dancing, punk is for moshing, experimental is to appreciate as art/get stoned to. Pop music is designed to sing and dance along to and have fun with. It's not supposed to be profound. People don't realize that artists' images are simply marketing schemes, or they do realize it and hate the artist for it. It's probably fun to dress crazy, and there's not much money left in music, so they need to market it any way they can. Why not just accept pop for what it is? I really enjoy the music produced by Dr. Luke. Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and new Britney Spears for example. People say "Ke$ha is a dirty whore with no talent!" Shut up foo! She's just trying to make a living, and if she were partying that hard, you'd hear about it. If you look at interviews and early demos on Youtube, Ke$ha actually has a good singing voice and good taste in music.

She's also the only big female pop star who's built like a tank.

Lady GaGa's image is designed to sell, and can you blame her? I'd dress up in (more comfortable) costume and do weird stuff for attention if I were a pop star.

It's not, your URL is. You have to put the whole URL in, not the short one.

God this is exactly why I don't listen to the youth all they do is canonize the most bizarre things just because there different. It's pretty obvious that different doesn't mean better. Though if society is shallow enough to believe this I guess I truly am on the wrong planet.

To be honest this is all subjective no matter how much both aesthetic sides want to wail about there opinion ultimately she will probably wind up like Madonna. Most of her fan base grew up acquired jobs and just see her as a form of nostalgia. GaGa doesn't have to grow up she's affluent emough though she probably won't sell much at age fifty like Madonna.

I'm confused - is she trying to be someone? People keep saying Madonna and personally I have no idea where they're coming from, maybe I'm the only one seeing that she's flexing a different dynamic?

Funny thing is I can't get into her music, can't get into her politics, but I have a hard time not giving her props in other ways.

Shes a hypocrite she affiliates herself with the left in almost every area though it eludes her that her career is built on the capitalist system. A multitude of celebrities are a living a lie. How affluent can you get in countries like Russia or China places that left-bent people canonize.

As I said, hate her politics. On the other end Hollywood is loaded with it, the music world is loaded with it, she's not exactly on her own. Sadly it almost goes hand in hand that pop musicians are blazing lefties. I have to wonder though, in the current climate, if there was a musical supergenious who had great things to say about conservatism or about Rand came along - how well they'd fair in publicity.

I love Gaga and her music. Not only is she a truly talented musician, like Descartes mentioned, she continually spreads the much-needed message that we need gay equality in America and that it's okay to be a "freak" or "weird." I've seen her in concert twice, and both times were simply amazing. I love that she's not afraid to dress outlandishly. Yes, part of it is because she loves attention, but the other part of it really is that she doesn't care what people think about her. She just wants to be herself, and she's telling young people to do the same. As someone who was "outcast, bullied, [and] teased" due to "life's disabilities," I think it's a great message.

I actually think that she exploits those people disabilities to get more fame, money and power.

I'm a big Gaga fan - that is a fan of her as an artist and as a brand.

Her music is a good example of pop - she has great musical talent, a lot of her songs are rubbish but there are enough there that are such great examples of pop that they do very well, and they do so because they're good not just because of her die-hard fans. I like her because she is fake, she has used previous artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson as a template to build herself upon, she's a pop icon and a living breathing statement on celebrity culture, pop culture, music culture and fashion.

She's smart because everything she does is fake so her image isn't her as a person but as a statement - you'll rarely see images or hear stories about her that she doesn't want you to know about, her use of the media is staggering and it does mimic Jacksons micky-take of the media by being purposefully eccentric and outrageous to make her a less-than-real character thus cementing her in the media and in the history books...and it's that character you see, never her...she is no longer a person, which is her art. She went from being a performer in New York, arts school, song writer - which in itself is impressive, but to achieve all she has is amazing.

She blatantly advertises anything and everything, yet still manages to maintain integrity by making this part of her branding and she does this impeccably, most other artists bring out scents or clothing lines, where as Gaga has managed to get herself into everything. She uses her following of little monsters to promote positive messages - for example don't ask don't tell, which I'm guessing is a major thing to go up against in the US, she did so in an annoying way but she still does more with her fame than most, and has a major cultural influence.

Lots of things about her annoy me to no end - she doesn't need to go as far as wearing a meat dress, that was a ridiculous move that she really didn't need to do at the peek of her career, the egg thing to me was like when stars start to wear those massive sunglasses once fame goes to her head...but hell it shows some serious commitment to her art to stay in that thing for so long!

So....I'm the only one who suspects she may be an aspie then?
No, not just for the eccentric behaviour.

No shes defintely not an aspie. She is good at tricking and deceiving people. She is a good robot child and is refined at making other people robots. She uses and exploits certain issues and people so that she can get more fame, power and money and it works, obviously. She isn't going up against anyone. haha. Anyone that truly goes up against the great evil, gets killed, like John Lennon, JFK, Kurt Cobain, 2pac, Micheal Jackson...... You need to dig deeper.

Well I like good music like Mozart's Requiem and I also like to study music and write my own so listening to a song like Poker Face which uses brain-meltingly simple notation and the same generic chords as most other terrible pop songs is like reading a Peter and Jane book. As well as this I don't appreciate promiscuousness and aesthetics used not only to sell music which should be appreciated on a non-physical level but actually being more important than the music itself.

Your entire life is built on a capitalist system.

Kurt Cobain killed himself. Seriously, is it that hard to believe that a drug addict with bipolar disorder would commit suicide?
