Now that it's degenerated to this level, allow me to add this link to the fray:

http://forum.bandmix.com/viewtopic.php?t=5500

I think there is ample evidence that the creativeness of nut jobs to come up with new names is boundless. (These guys are mostly friends of mine, albeit only online friends so far, so "nut job" is meant as a term of endearment. For most of them anyway.)

EDIT: Also, I forgot that some of the names given there are actually real band names. Most are made up though, especially those by Philbymon.

Well, it depends. "THEY" as in the general public will probably run out of names. However "I" as in myself will probably never run out of names. Too many for me to even count are still unused, but society itself has a habit of being extremely narrow-minded with names.

John Cougar Mellencamp once released an album called "Big Daddy".

This caused the (very funny) band Big Daddy to try to release an album called "John Cougar Mellencamp".
This was stopped by lawyers. Go figure. :)

The Norwegian band Barbie Bones first called themselves MonaLisa Overdrive, but before the release of their first album they were notified that there was already a band called that. Not bad...

the laws that govern such things should be liberalized to at least allow for people to name themselves anything they want even if it is already taken, with the expedient of adding an additional alphanumeric designation at the beginning or end of their names, like "the beatles1" [or more like "the beatles37,594"] or "steppenwolf the 6th," etc.

The simple kind of names perhaps, but since it's fairly easy to be creative when it comes to band names I don't think we will run out for a while. Unless people somehow lose their creativity 8O
