Thank you both.

Here's another I'm really enjoying at the moment (it's several months old but still beautiful dubstep.)

I'm trying to build a playlist for my Chime.in account and my account on http://designers.mx/#/ - if you guys know more songs like that, or songs like Madeon's "Icarus" or Joe Garston's "Quickscope" or Mord Fustang's "Lick The Rainbow" let me know :)

I like about 50% of it, i think the older stuff is a lot better because it was more minimal and dub-influenced than it is now, and the bass used to be a lot lower. I got into dubstep in 2006 when it was still relatively 'underground' because i liked dub reggae, i like the space and the deep pulsing bass lines in early dubstep. dub music is supposed to be about atmosphere and minimalism, but that's almost completely disappeared :( most "dubstep" now is full of mid-range WOBWOBWOB noises and has very little bass.

don't get me wrong, I like some of the more recent dubstep too; 16bit, excision, datsik, funt case, doctor p, flux pavillion, and skrillex isn't bad either, I just prefer the more old school dubstep sound.

I recommend:

Benga 'Diary Of An Afro Warrior'
Skream 'Skream'
VA- 5 years of Hyperdub
VA- Sureplayaz presents Chilled Deep Dubstep
VA- Chilled Dubstep & Bass (Sureplayaz)
VA- Box of Dub vol 1 & 2
Clubroot- Clubroot
Burial- Untrue & Burial

Thank you for that list. It's nice to have a comparison between what I came into, and what was there before it. I haven't read through the other pages, but if anyone else have great examples of classic dubstep tracks with "atmosphere" and "minimalism" feel free to share'm.

I find dubstep crap that is entirely overrated. Electronic music in general is for DJs that want 7 minute songs with little substance other than for dancing.

Closest I get to dubstep is Blue Stahli (who is abjectly against it) and Celldweller, who has sadly started using it in recent work. He used to be good though.

I was subjected to a few tracks of new Korn once; it's horrendous.

I agree. I was around some "friends" who were heavy into dubstep who happened to be laptop dj's, (I loved it when they played hip-hop, psy-trance, drum'n'bass, or glitch'n'bass, yet when they played dubstep I was annoyed)
However I loved annoying my dubstep friends when they would start a dubstep track and I would just add pianos in FL-Studio.

What tracks did they play? Dark, heavy tracks? Light, mellow tracks? Cheesy, club tracks? It's nice to see there are still dj's that don't limit themselves to one or 2 related styles of electronic music and stay there for the rest of their career.

Or 501, or Knife Party.

I like knife party, you should listen to "Destroy them with Lasers" and "EDM Death Machine".
