I don't listen to the DK's all that often, but I had to post this one. For anyone not familiar with this song or the story behind it, I guess the Dead Kennedys were invited to perform at the 1980 Bay Area Music Awards (they're from San Francisco), and this is one of the things they played. Every aspect of the song is a satire - the lyrics, the music (notice how they slyly slip in "My Sharona"), even Jello Biafra's cheesy comments to the crowd after the song. If someone were to ask me what I think punk rock is "about," the lyrics to this song sort of summarize it better than anything else I can think of.

I’m sorry, but as much as I love the DK’s, sometimes Jello Bifra is just a bitter old c**t. The very idea that “authentic” punks don’t want to be rich and famous is pure BS. They just want to do it on their terms, and when that doesn’t happen, they sing songs like this…. It is a good song though—nice and catchy.
If I was gonna post a DK song and claim this is what punk is all about, it would be "kill the poor" or "soup is good food." Just my two cents...
These guys want to be rich and famous.
