Perhaps Slade's most underrated song, and undoubtedly one of their best. Play it at maximum volume, with or without some alcoholic (or other) accompaniment, and you may see what I mean. That gimmick with the female dancers' colour-coded dress is pretty good as well - didn't spot it first time round.

Another thought that hadn't originally occurred: was the appearance of that character in A Clockwork Orange based on Noddy Holder, or was it the other way round? Or was the whole thing just a coincidence?

Not the sort of thing I'd normally post, but have been interested in the origins and history of this song for many years and it's fascinating to hear a recording from the beginning of the last century. There's a more recent version by Freddie and the Dreamers, which sounded pretty idiotic, and also one by Max Bygraves, but I'm not even thinking of going there....
