A member made a smartass comment referring to one of my earlier threads and I took offense to it.
I have never said one negative thing to this member so I don't understand why they show me little respect.

I don't care if people disagree with my opinion but I hate when people use sarcasm to belittle others.
It's a form of internet bullying.
It was meant to be funny but people seem to not understand that.

There were a couple of times in my life when The Beatles were my favourite. I thought that they were the greatest thing since sliced bread There was even a time last year that I had both logos of The Kinks and The Beatles as an avatar for an hour.

I like them; they're more innovative than a lot of pop, but less innovative than a lot of the genres of jazz. I certainly wouldn't call them bad. Wouldn't even be in my top 50 bands though, definitely not. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to music, though. I will give respect where respect is due though, they can sing in tune, which cannot be said of many modern popular musicians.

sorry, but clueless me  didn't notice the humor, i thought it was a serious discussion about the beatles and competiting groups/musical genres.
if your next-door neighbor's dog yapped at you everytime you walked on the sidewalk in front of their house, would you take it personally?

The fact that it took me nearly ten minutes to figure out exactly what you're talking about here tells me that it was awfully easy for me to overlook as "inconsequential."

That said, I'm not saying it was or should have been for you, but you did reply to him, and even then it didn't appear to me there was any serious problem. Maybe there was to you, I'm not saying there wasn't.

The thing is, this thread has taken on a life of its own by now. It wouldn't be fair to the users who are participating reasonably to lock or delete it.

It's not hard to ignore it. Just click the link at the bottom of the page to stop watching it, and you'll stop getting emails. You may have to open the first page of the thread and click the link on that page for it to work.

If you're really that worked up about it, you can PM a moderator and ask them to lock it. Sometimes they will do that, but it does depend on the reason and how fair they think it is to the rest of WP users.

As far as your questions not being answered, which you mentioned elsewhere, you asked only one:

"That's a bit tyrannic. Don't you think?" (In reference to George and Ringo only being allowed to sing three songs per LP (two for George, which he wrote, one for Ringo, which he may or may not have written ~ if I remember correctly)

Personally, I never really thought much about it. Frankly I'm not a huge Beatles fan anyway, but I do acknowledge they were extremely influential regardless of what I think about them. Whether or not I liked them doesn't change the fact that they were a very big deal.

I'm sorry if something posted here offended you, but I didn't even pick up on the fact that you were offended until now.

I think what annoys people who don´t like "titans" like the Beatles, Dylan, Elvis etc is that there exists such a humongus fan culture around them, claiming they are gods and whatnot. After listening to or reading some endless rant about how Lennon is the most important person in the history of humankind and that the rest of us are just a waste of flesh it´s enough to start hating those pop star worshippers, and in the process it´s easy to develope hatred against the person/s they worship.
Maybe it´s the want for proving those annoying people wrong that you might express why you hate an artist when you really don´t have any strong feelings at all about him/her.

I was quite obsessed with the Beatles as a kid (I have AS after all so it was always all or nothing), but later discovered many bands that in my opinion are way better and completely lost any interest in them. Now they are a little more than a happy childhood memory to me.

BTW the Thirteen Floor Elevators is probably my favoutite 60s pop/rock band, in spite of the sometimes blatant drug references.

Your right! I get so annoyed with some of the fans. To say that the Beatles were the best band in the world is a matter of opinion and if I disagree with it then I must not be human. The Beatles are like any other mainstream act. They are liked by the masses and have too much money. The don't give a crap about there fans( which turns me off) and they are just annoying.

I am not going to jump on the band wagon and pretend to like them.
There was a couple of jokes in the original post that nobody got.

"Jokes no one got." You're on an ASD forum. What did you expect?

There is a reason many users here label their jokes (*joke*). jmnixon95 just offered the explanation.

Not getting jokes that aren't clearly identified as jokes is a very common ASD trait.

People with AS can get jokes and some people are quite funny on this forum.

I know that. I feel like I get jokes a lot quicker than most people--even NT--but I didn't see any in your post. You also didn't mention that anything was a joke until this page. You should have done that sooner if anything was supposed to be a joke in the first place. Maybe people wouldn't have taken it so seriously.

It's especially annoying when you get to be a superfan of some other band, and if they're not one of the "titans" you get no sympathy, and suddenly your worship is stupid/childish/worthless (from my experience). I'm ashamed to like the bands or artists I like when I know some musicians are met with immediate awe, and you'll be practically ostracised for rating another artist more because it makes you 'different', and in the best case will be ignored (I had worse happen to me).

Ditto

Finally a group who can agree with me. I got into a massive argument with youtubers on a skate vid for this exact mentality. It lasted for months lol.

I wonder what John Lennon thinks as he's looking down on us right now!

I've always preferred The Kinks and The Who to The Beatles. I don't even really like The Beatles.

I think The Kinks were obviously not as musically talented, but they were more original and interesting than The Beatles. Their career is very patchy, but once you fall in love with their style, you even find that the less-than-brilliant songs have a charm to them. Plus, don't kill me for saying this, Ray Davies seems pretty aspie to me. One person's 'curiosity' is another person's cult obsession.

I just love the artiness of The Who. They were arguably better musicians than the Beatles, but their band had a totally different dynamic. The different musicians were playing off each other as opposed to the more harmonious sound of the Beatles. It made it edgy.

I love the Velvet Underground, too...but I gather that we're talking about British Invasion groups here. The Kinks and The Who are my favourite.

Simply good musicianship/songwriting isn't enough for me. There has to be something about a group that I find interesting.

I was just thinking that about Ray Davies. Even when I was reading the book, X-RAY I found a lot of aspie traits in him. Mick Avory seems to border on being AS and HFA, so I don't want people shooting me down for speaking my opinion either. Ray Davies and Mick Avory were best friends out of the Kinks. I can see why the connection happened to be, as well. Ray is a Mind Aspie and Mick is a Heart Aspie.
