I think they're still full of sh*t!

I'm not nearly so confident in my own verbal skills to do the job.

Is part of your strategy to choose a reader who has a following, that will increase sales? Or, does the identity of the reader not really matter?

No, I'm interested in someone with the verbal skills to narrate for me.

All of your readers have excellent verbal skills. How did you find them?

I make use of ACX offered by Amazon, through which audiobooks are produced. There, a list of prospective narrators is offered, though I prefer to put out word through the site that I am interested in someone to read the manuscript. I then listen to the prospective candidates, then pick one to my liking.

Wow! It is like you are a director, auditioning actors for a movie!

Never thought of it that way, but I suppose that's right.

Did you pay the reader up front? Or did you split the royalties?

Royalties split.

It looks like Amazon lists audio books separately from e-books and published books. I would think that they would list your book in one place, including all of the options (e-books, published books AND audio). I was thinking about trying to make my own audio book first, from one of my short stories.

That might be possible. What I've always done was start off with Kindle, then paperback, and finally to the audiobook.

I have kindle, paperback and hard cover. I was talking about how Amazon presents the products. Kindle, paperback and hard cover options are available where my book is listed. But, it looks like that specific page, where the book is listed, doesn't have an option for the audio book. It looks like audio books are listed separately, somewhere else. Am I right? The author page doesn't appear to have a place to upload audio books.

Go to www.acx.com (which is also run by Amazon) and you'll be able to set up your audiobook.

Having listened to this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSIxx7URLB0

I think that I had better find a reader. I would be very disappointed if I recorded all 125 pages, and then ACX rejected it.

Actually, after seven books, I have yet to be rejected by ACX. And truthfully, if they did reject your book, you and your narrator/producer would have the opportunity to fix any problems rather than leaving you with no recourse.

John Y Walker says "Hi." He said that he was too busy for my book.
