I couldn't be bothered to read through this whole thread so I'm not sure if this has been said before, but personally I don't like Lady Gaga. I don't hate her, because I don't really see her as worth giving huge amounts of emotion to, but I think her whole act seems contrived. If she were just a natural eccentric, being 'herself', being out there because that is who she actually is, then fine.. but her look is created by teams of stylists and is just taking elements from every other genuine eccentric artist that has come before. It feels fake, she looks permanently uncomfortable. I hate the expression, but it does look like the clothes wear her instead of vice versa, and in ways the clothes ~are her personality, instead of using clothes as a way to ~show her personality.. which seems to be different every week anyway. I have seen old pictures of her, she was just a normal girl who can sing and play piano (and I will admit she is very talented in those areas).
But her music lacks substance, she can dress up, quote intellectual text, proclaim she has a 'message', but if you listen to her music it's just catchy pop music about partying and boys. She is in a position of huge power at the moment, she is so famous, she has a chance to make big changes, political statements, but she doesn't seem to have anything real to say. In the few interviews I have watched she doesn't come off as exceptionally intelligent, at all. She does shocking things just to shock, and I doubt she even knows what it is she's going for. The one very positive thing she does is support LGBT rights and all that, I'm sure that has helped a lot of people feel better about themselves and about their place in society. For a mainstream star she is doing something admirable in changing people's perceptions of things, but in terms of comparing her to other artists and musicians with a real message, outside of the mainstream, she comes nowhere close.
So yeah, I don't buy it.
