A good friend of mine in high school played this going down the hall on his boombox senior year. Love it! Such a classic.

Posting the German version and American version. Love both. The second one was beautifully created by someone and love how they did it!

Progressive Rock

Progressive Rock or Prog as it is known today emerged from the UK out of the 1960s psychedelic scene and rise of popularity of rock music on albums which allowed for much longer songs and thus experimentation. It often added elements of other more “respectable” genre's such as Classical Music and opera. Lyrics often had Classical literary and English folklore themes. In the UK fans of Progressive Rock tended to be more upper class and highly educated.

In America it was the same music but a very different phenomenon. Especially back then the British looked down upon showmanship while Americans have tended to embrace it. While working and middle class Americans might not have understood the references they appreciated the showmanship shown in the above videos. And the British accent always helps. The American teens of the 70s had just missed out on the change and unrest of the 1960s but they still had drugs and rock and roll. They were probably not music school graduates but add drugs and a car or home quadraphonic stereo system and the music connected. Progressive Rock was a huge deal in the 70s especially among teen and young adult males.

Editors Note
It still amazes me how much generations who were not born yet know about the music I grew up to, and the music I was into as a young adult. We did not want anything to do with our parents music. One of my favorite types of youtube videos is Millennials and Gen Z types reacting and reviewing older music. When first started watching them I figured I would get a good laugh at their cluelessness. While that sometimes happens more often then not to my surprise even if they miss the details they get the basic idea.

My first few reply's were random songs. This was my first but not last themed reply. Since the younger generations are so interested not only about the music but where it came I figured a brief overview from someone who remembers those times could provide context.
