Do any of you take dance such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, etc.? I became interested in ballet when I was about 18 but didn't start taking a class until I was 25 after I moved out on my own and was there was places nearby that I could take class. A year ago I started taking a jazz class and this fall I also started taking a lyrical class.

Not sure what Wichita Falls has (are you still there Tim?), but some towns have groups that get together for dancing.

Things like Contra Dancing, Folk Dancing, Ball Room Dancing.

The two places I have lived where there is Contra Dancing had real nice folks at the dances.
Things were real relaxed and even if a person wasn't the most coordinated dancer, most folks were happy to help them through it all.

Since you're in Texas, you might find places where folks get together for two-stepping and waltz dancing. I'm not talking about bars either.

Check with the group that coordinates student activities on your campus.

When listening to a song I like a lot I just move my body in any way that I can express myself.

Contra dancing? Is that the one where you fight the Sandinistas?

That was worth 100 lols.

I have always liked the idea of being able to dance, but the reality works out quite a bit differently. :P I think I could learn, given enough time and patience, but who has that?

I have done tango several times, much to the catcalling of my female groupies.

I dance like the bastard love child of Elaine from Seinfeld and Steve Martin in The Jerk.

I dance, but don't follow any particular style. I just do it for fun at a gothic dance club.

When I feel music, I don't get the urge to dance like people. I wanna play it. The only exception is metal, I've found myself head-banging before.

I do it all - line dancing, tap, ballet, jazz, ceroc, & I have done ballroom & latin - problem with that is the lack of a partner though!

The line-dancing scene is actually pretty aspie-friendly if you are able to do it - you are expected to remember the steps to all the dances, who choreographed each one, and where the "count-in" comes in the music.

(For the uninitiated, it is a lot more complex than the "Yee-hah" image portrayed in the media - imagine going to a dance from 8pm until 11pm and having to know a different sequence of steps to every single track played - the music can be anything from Billy Ray Cyrus to Riverdance, Eminem or J-LO.)

Plus you actually can be at a social event and not have to talk to people too much, as when you are on the dance floor you are dancing by yourself and (hopefully!) not interacting with the other dancers.

I can dance pretty well if you give me a pair of glow sticks, otherwise if I go to the clubs I almost have to tone it down too much (ie if you aren't just nodding your head and bending your knees your sticking out too much, I like a lot of footwork and to actually move my feet to the rhythm).

As for stuff like Salsa, Waltz, Chacha, Mambo, I've picked up bits and pieces - though I will say that I haven't had the practice I'd want to be silky smooth with it (most of what jars me is having steps to remember and having to manually think about it, rave style dancing is all improvisation).

No, that's Konami Code Dancing, except it has Select inbetween A and Start.

There's a song by The Gothsickles that's called "Konami Code" and the chorus is "UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT! A! B! SELECT! START!"
