Think about it. Akira hardly speaks; indeed, his only lines are the very end of the manga's last volume. Outwardly, he shows little emotion, as he is unnervingly calm as people die around him. However, he is visibly distressed by Nezu's killing of Takashi. Also, towards the end, he seems a bit happy once he is reunited with Masaru and Kiyoko. He seems preoccupied with minutiae, as indicated by this scene, which shows the A-man's eyes are fixated on a double-helix model constructed of rocks via his own telekinetic powers rather than Tetsuo.

Overall, he meets the criteria for someone with ASD. Either that, or he's an ignorant jerk.
