You know. People seem to be freaking out about the world ending in 2012. This is just like what happened during Y2K, it didn't happen that time, so I'm positive it won't happen again! However, some may think differently about this than I do. So, tell me what you think by answering the question above.

I don't believe so. The idea of the end of the world is more of a western idea, and the natives of Mayan descent state that it doesn't mean the end of the world.

Well apparently the magnetic poles are suppose to reverse themselves in 2012, but no, I don't believe the world will end. :)

People have been trying to predict the end of the world for centuries, probably more. Yes, the world might end today. Or tomorrow. Or the day after. What's the point in worrying? Just take it one day at a time.

Having lived through several end of the worlds (remember the Harmonic Convergence?)... no. 2012 isn't going to be any [longed for] apocalyptic cataclysmic punishment of all the bad people. If you look deep enough you'll find that... only the truly enlightened survive, whether it's by rapture or bunker.

2012 might be a very good year to re-balance your financial portfolio, though. Should be at the peak of some sort of bubble by then...

As for the Mayan calender - my book of cheques is about to end, I don't think that this means the end of the world either!! !!

I voted "I don't know and don't care" because NO-ONE KNOWS and, should the world end - there is probably not a lot a can do about it anyway.

As for now - I'll just try to be a good steward of the world as it is. Reduce, Recycle, Reuse. Support equality. Take care of the earth and each other.

My option wasn't listed:

-I'm not worried in any case - Bruce Willis will save us. :D

Don't know, don't care. If it's still around, I'll survive as well as I always have. If it ends, I won't be worried about survival anymore.

IMO one can think of something serious without actually worrying about it. Simply because it's interesting.

According to "the bible code 2" we had a nuclear war about 5 years ago and according to Charles Berlitz' interpretation of Nostradamus, the world ended in 1999...

When I was little my father scared the living day lights out of me by saying that in a few years time a yellow race would attack us and everyone on Earth would die, and then aliens would descend.

In other words, no I don't believe in it.

Another common interpretation of the Maya prophecy is that the end doesn't mean an actual end but a new way of life. I doubt it, but I hope...

Maybe. It's possible that some accident will destroy the world (less likely, although if a large enough object was heading towards us fast enough we'd probably not know until it hit), its biosphere (more likely) or human civilisation (entirely possible given the twenty thousand or so nuclear weapons currently sitting in the arsenals of the world).

Leonard Bernstein?

It's the end of the world as we know it (it's always the end of the world as we know it, because the Earth is a dynamic place with colliding cultures)

and I feel fine...

Well, what does that mean if the magnetic poles reverse?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal

Noone really knows what will happen when the poles reverse. The last time it happened was more than 700 000 years ago (Wiki says 780 000, other sources say 740 000), and life seems none the worse for it. There’s a good chance that there won’t be an increase in skin cancer, for instance. Some fear that animals using magnetic fields for navigation (birds, sea turtles) will have problems finding their way, but then again they survived the last one and several before that, so it’s probably unlikely. Their populations weren’t as critical as they are now though, so it might be a factor. Technology may suffer, as during a solar flare.
There is no way to tell before it happens.
