Do you think Metallica died with Cliff Burton? If so, then post why or why not. Is Metallica still alive and well or is it dying?

Metallica completely jumped the shark when Cliff died, and became Corporate Whorica.

Hey, I'm new to this site, but I just wanted to write real quick that I like old-school Metallica, which would have been with Cliff. Tragedy and all that. Can't believe it happened still, horrifying. But I like Kill'em all and Ride the Lightning. Haven't heard those in years. INto punk now for the most part. What was the last album Cliff played on? Cheers.

Master of Puppets. The subsequent album (...And Justice for All) has low bass lines.

Untrue. The album has bass lines which are mixed INSANELY low. That album is one of the worst-mixed albums in history.

It was in fact the last album to feature a Cliff Burton artistic contribution though.

after how things turned out on Justice for All (solid songs but sh***y production) i can see why they went the way they did with the Black Album. but that was easily their peak. now Metallica is just pathetic. you can see their hearts aren't in it anymore. you compare Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets to say Load/Reload or St. Anger, there's no contest.

btw, concerning James Hetfield and his drinking, i'd be a f*****g alcoholic too if i had to hang around Lars Ulrich for 20 years.

I gotta say, I think Load and ReLoad are underrated albums. They both suck, sure, but between them there's enough good songs to make a passable album.

It never ceases to amuse me how people seem to think Lars Ulrich is some kind of a villain for wanting people to stop illegally downloading.

...And Justice For All has basslines, and even the band themselves wish that if only they could re-record it seeing how the guitars and drums overpowered and were louder than the bass guitar itself.

Hey be patient "

their last album was done to clear away the cobwebs and the next .... the one they are working on now ... is going to go back to the BLACK ALBUM days ..... my fave period.

I realise that a few people long for a return to the original thrash metal of 20 years ago but it ain't gonna happen !

I can't say I like Metallica, but I like Cliff. So . . . #1. Metallica died with Cliff.

Well here's a question, what's everybody's favourite Metallica song?

I'm about to get my ass kicked for this, but...

My favourite is...

'Mama Said.'
