In my thread on downloading discontinued media, someone posted a link to some archive site with public domain stuff where I found a bunch of music on the ol' Edison cylinder format. I downloaded something from a cylinder recorded in 1904.

Listen to the first 8 seconds. That part where the trumpets kick in.

I don't know what it is, but old recordings sound haunting to me. Is it the sound of the format's recording capabilities, or the music style itself?

And music set aside, even earlier recording capabilities scare me. That earliest known recording from 1860 makes me want to curl up in a corner and cry (no, really it does).

I love WP's color scheme. Green is awesome when you're blue!
