Hi, this is a bit of a strange request but I've got a problem with my electro/acoustic guitar and would really appreciate any advice. It's a Takamine G series model number EG321C and has recently starting giving a low distorted tone or cutting out altogether when plugged in. The battery also seem quite loose when put in. I'm going to take it into a shop but I don't really want to pay for a repair if its something simple and I've also had some great on here before regarding a broken amplifier.

could be a bad connection or a short somewhere. Happened with my elec guitar. That is my guess though.

Yea it's probably something with the input jack on the guitar. I've had that happen on both my electric and acoustic-electric. But if you haven't already, try it with a different cord before you take it in. Sometimes it's the cord itself and not the guitar; I've had that happen a couple times as well.

Ooooo! Nice acoustic! :)

Anyway, your distortion problem will either to be done with the amp you're using (Specify the exact model!) or the on-board setting on the electro part of the acoustic, try rolling off the gain on it. If not, try another lead, it might be busted.

Hope it helps!

it's not the 60-cycle kind, is it? Could be grounding on the amp, or the cable, as mentioned previously.

(still trying to wrap my head around the concept of an 'acoustic' guitar that needs batteries...;)

I'm no expert (although I have a Takamine G series too - they're nice guitars!) - but I'd second amazon_television on checking the lead first. I've lost count of the number of times I've cussed at my guitars when the problem was with the lead. The cheaper they are, unfortunately, the quicker the jack goes crappy.

Failing that, I'd take it to a music store to get it (and the amp) looked at. I personally don't know enough about guitars to advise on poking about in their innards. Hubby(bass player) tells me it sounds like something's up with the wiring, but to be honest he's no expert either...sorry I can't be of more assistance...

I concur, probably a cold solder joint.

It seems to be normal for the battery to be a bit loose, it always is for me. 9v I assume?

Yours is the same problem I am having with my Ibanez bass. It's hell. It goes away when I replace the battery. But it needs a new battery pretty much everyday. The battery just keeps getting drained away and is dead every time I want to play the bass. I've been told it is a short causing this.

Do you have any sort of electronics experience? Am guessing possibly not in which case maybe do not take anything apart and get a pro to help. Every guitar problem I have had has been resolved with relative ease but i do a lot of electronics fiddling.

Has the guitar had any serious drops or knocks lately? If not I would concentrate on the areas that get frequently used like the affore-mentioned jacks or possibly noisy eq/volume sliders pots if it has them.
Distortion in most active circuits can come from a lack of volts, sounds obvious but have you tried a couple of new batteries?

^ Fogman really knows what he's talking about when it comes to guitars and amps.

My (less knowledgeable) advice would just be to make sure it's actually the guitar, not the amp or cable. And if it has multiple pick-ups (sorry for not looking up the model), test to see if it affects one or all of them. Sounds like you've probably already done that.

If you're fixing it on your own, have fun!

I've took it in to the store I brought it from and it seems like I need get a replacement part for it. It won't cost me as I've only had it for 5 months. Thanks to everyone who replied.
