My personal favorite is the Father of Surrealism, Salvatore Dali. Won't post some of his paintings on here in the event they offend people.

i'll go with Bacon also. it took me a long time to outgrow his influence. i think that he expressed the 20th century better than anyone else, in any medium.

I would say all Romantic painters are my favorites. I enjoy Salvador Dali's paints too.
So I don't really have a favorite one...

I like Van Gogh best but Rembrand, Caspar David Friedrich, Adolf Menzel and Albrecht Dürer were great too.

I'm a Salvador Dali guy, myself. All those melting clocks and and ants turn my crank.

My biggest influences are Francis Bacon, H.R. Giger, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Alex Grey, Rene Magritte. Also, some more recent ones, like Luc Tuymans and Peter Doig (apparently you can't be an artist in Canada these days without being very well acquainted with Doig's work). And I find some of Gerhard Richter's abstracts absolutely stunning.

Klimt, Dali, Egon Schiele. M.C. Escher. Mucha. Toulouse-Lautrec. Degas.

None other than the great Monsieur Claude Monet. I've been captivated. :D
