I'd have to say that my favorite music genre of all time is nu metal, even though some people tend to give me weird looks when I mention it. Anyone else out there like nu metal as well?

My favorite nu metal bands and favorite song by them:

1. Slot - Doska
2. Otep - Possession
3. Linkin Park - In The End
4. Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff
5. POD - Boom

It's been out of vogue for a while, but a lot of my guilty pleasures are nu metal or at least alternative metal. This includes Deftones, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Sepultura circa Roots, Slipknot, Soulfly, Mudvayne, and Otep. In each case, though, my appreciation really only extends to the early stuff and not so much to what they're up to these days.

Old school Papa Roach is where it's at. PRE-Infest. It's only available through file-sharing as .mp3, but Old Friends From Young Years is worth checking out.

Wow, I never even knew that existed, and I'm a passing fan of the band. If they'd mastered it and maybe slowed down/spaced out the lyrics just a tad, it would've been really awesome. Is there a mastered version out there somewhere, do you know?

That's all there was. It was their independent album, and they recorded it in their living room. They had a limited edition reissue for those who joined their fan club during a specific period of time (which I failed to do due to issues with the website not loading on my computer), but this probably is what was reissued. They also have three EPs that came out before they were signed. I'll post a couple other tracks when I get home from work.

Here's a couple more as I said I'd post 'em.

On your comment about the reducing speed/mastering--it wouldn't make a difference. As with the majority of their earlier material, Jacoby had an odd style of rapping. It was quite sloppy and he didn't spend a whole lot of effort with pronouncing his lyrics. But it still had a cool sound regardless of that.

I f***in' love nu metal. I really have a hard time understanding why it gets such a bad rap (pun unintended, but still deserves a  ) like it does.

It is, pretty much, but there's a difference between it and rapcore. Staind and Three Days Grace are hard rock/alternative metal in my opinion.

I love Dope (the band, not the drug.)

I thought it was still pretty alive... the most popular rock bands currently seem to be under the Nu Metal brand. Or Post-Grunge. The bands mentioned in this thread I hear regularly on modern rock radio stations, and they're the ones I hear most about (when I'm out in public with others).

I'm okay with Nu Metal, and some bands I like (I can't believe nobody's mentioned System of a Down!), but generally I'm not really much a fan of it. I don't like much modern metal, I prefer metal prior to the 90's. And progressive metal, a la Dream Theater. There just doesn't seem to be as much musicianship, riffs, or solos. But I'll still listen to it.

I'm not sure which genre Avenged Sevenfold belongs to? Alternative Metal? But I'm starting to like them lately. Too bad it's pretty much right after The Rev died...

Yeah. Mostly off-topic, but what's with talented famous people dying at or around 28, anyway?

Kurt Cobain
Brandon Lee
Casey Calvert
Heath Ledger
The Reverend

Just to name a few.
