The novel will be set in ancient times and will star an Egyptian warrior queen named Sekhmethotep and her Nubian friend Kasaqa. Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly what the plot is going to be, though I do know that a) Sekhmethotep and Kasaqa's friendship will be a theme and b) there will be plenty of fighting and other action scenes.

Some concept art for the two main characters:

Kasaqa the Kushite (also drawn by me)

Great artwork. :)

Sounds like a good beginning for the novel's concept. Good luck with the writing.

This sounds a bit like a couple of novels by Marion Zimmer Bradley: THE FIREBRAND (setting: the Trojan War) and THE MISTS OF AVALON (the Arthurian legend). These stories got very deeply into the relationships among the characters without detracting from the "action" scenes.

You have a very good idea here.

Those sound like books I want to check out. I might learn something from them.

:) Yes, take a look at them. Let me know what you think when you do. I bought them both several months ago from Amazon (I originally read library copies) and just finished re-reading THE FIREBRAND.

Damn with that artwork why don't you try and do a graphic novel instead?

LOL I'm not THAT good at drawing yet. I still have a lot to learn (for instance, foreshortening is a weakness of mine).

BTW, I have a slightly better idea for a plot. I'm thinking about making the story about a conflict between the Egyptians and a nearby civilization (e.g. Hittites or Babylonians).

Finally started writing the novel! I've decided that the antagonist will be a Hittite warrior prince named Lubarna who is eager to please his militaristic father. Here's concept art depicting the prince:

Are you doing research into the cultures portrayed in your book to retain historical accuracy? That could give it some grounding in reality. Just a thought.

I have indeed done some research.

Seconded. You're off to a very good start. Just look at http://questionablecontent.net and look at where the artist started to where he is today. Just takes time to progress.
