sometimes it just takes an ultra-emo song to do it and i dont realize the pain that's growing in my system. Does anyone have similar experiences to share and/or advice to get past the grief?

I never had an ex, so yeah, they do make me sad about crushes I've had, though. As far as what I do, well, it doesn't take really "emo" music for me, so meh. I don't know, I drive around late at night on some backroads to burn off some steam, that's my favorite way to do it. Life will go on.

I notice this with classical music, or just movie themes. Sometimes but very rarely other music that incorporates these sounds.

They most of the time put me in a very melancholic state, and bring back feelings from when i was depressed which i have not felt for a couple years. Its like i travell back in time to those moments where i feel like i can cry at any second.

I wish i could feel joy from the music because its so beautiful, but it makes me feel pain for the most part.

I do get that feeling sometimes, but it's either because of the lyrics, or because I listened at the song when thinking about her. Apologize from One Republic is especially strong at that.

Whenever I listen to some songs, I remember how badly my ex sang them. That's not a good memory. :x

I realize not all of you understand Swedish, but here's one designed to do that:

It sounds like it was a lovely relationship, full of joy and light. I'm very sorry for your... er.... loss.

I used to, now different songs make me happy it's over. It took time and a lot of perspective to get over the grief.

Yeah, all the time. Occasionally, I'll hear something that'll bring back a happy memory, but usually it's something sad. There are a few songs I absolutely cannot listen to for this reason. "In my Life" by the Beatles and "Friends" by Ryan Adams are kind of off-limits for me.
