Jazz sub-genre question...

I just ran into one of the songs that got me into listening to jazz a lot more... and realized that I never figured out what 'kind' of jazz it is.

Basically, really heavy, yet lounge, jazz... I really want to figure out what kind of jazz it is, so I can find more bands/songs that are just like it. It's usually just described as either "Big Band" or "Hard Bop", which isn't right since I have music from both of those types, but it doesn't sound like it!

Please somebody knows right? xD

Cool song - I'll have to check more of their music. I'm not aware of similar bands, but I've used this site with some success in the past - maybe you can find something there.

The song is in a big band piece in a hard bop style, my dad would play
similar stuff he was a jazz musician and played the trumpet trombone

How would I go towards searching for other bands with the same style?

I think you would like the Verve Remix album series, especially Verve Remix 2. They are bepop and other jazz classics fromn the Verve label remixed with a modern harder edge. They sound so much like this that when I clicked on this I at first thought it was taken off of a Verve Remix album. There is another series that works off the Blue Note label called Blue Note Revisited. I get them off itunes. You would also like Mocean Worker and Mr. Scruff.
