anybody else on here a fan of them, or of serj tankian?

personally, i've been obsessed with them since the beginning of 07, and i've spent years learning just about every song by them on the guitar, and i've managed to track down over 20 b-side songs they've done (it wasn't easy)

I'm a fan. What's your favorite song by them? I like Old School Hollwood the best.

my favorite song by them is one you'll probably never hear, it's a b-side song called "the missing track" they might have it on youtube, but it's a demo of them from when they were really new, i think it might have been a 1995 demo (their self titled album came out in 98), and i definately prefer their older stuff to their newer. daron malakian shifted the dynamics of the band to fit his growing ego, which is part of the reason why they went on hiatus, according to an interview with shavo odadjian i read.

what other songs do you like by them? to be honest, old school hollywood is generally agreed to be one of their worse songs (she's like heroin is usually grouped in this category as well, but i like it) but system is still system in my book

I like better their first discs than the two latest.
My favorite songs are "Sugar", "Prison Song", "Chop Suey", "f**k the System" and "Lonely Day".

tbh, I'm not a super huge fan. I like some of their work but not all. I tend to listen to everything. I guess that counts as being a fan right? At least somwhat. I like Chop Suey, Lonley Day, and whatever songs I took off my moms iTunes. :?

i'm glad to see you share my opinion on their old vs. new stuff. you should try to track down some of their B-side songs, if you're into system when they're at their weirdest. i can give you names and a place to download them if you'd like.

Not SOAD. That song was done by a guy named Joe Pleiman, who is a sound editor in Boston, for his album "The Rabbit Joint."

you are correct, sir. i never bothered to dig too deep into whether or not that was system. it sounded close enough for me not to doubt it.

but all the others are definately SOAD. will the die for you doesn't really have their sound to it, but it's a song they did with a bunch of rap artists for the album "chef aid"

The singer of Volbeat sounds similar to SOAD's singer.

i honestly don't see how they sound anywhere near each other. what song do you think this guy sounds like? serj tankian is armenian and his vocal style is based on traditional armenian singing (listening to his father sing old songs from armenia is how he learned to sing himself), and this guy is pretty country...he sounds like a modern version of a combination of johnny cash and elvis to me

i think serj is just one of those vocalists who doesn't sound like anybody else, like the guy from disturbed or jeffery nothing from mushroomhead.

Depending on what he's singing, Serj kinda sounds like MJK from Tool.

maybe like a deeper version of him, when he's singing. MJK is another one of those unique vocalists i mentioned

Also somewhat related, Serj did a song with Tony Iommi called "Patterns"
