I have dabbled a bit in woodworking as a retirement pastime, though my nature seems to guarantee that I regularly make mistakes! I decided a couple years back to attempt a model of the giant cannon from the 1957 motion picture The Pride And The Passion; as I have had to move into Senior housing last year, I no longer have a wood shop, and have concentrated on adding a draft-team and completing the decorative details.

Here is a long-view:

Here are the team and drivers:

And a side view of the basic model:

There are no plans available, so I had to spend many hours viewing the DVD two years ago; since I don't have an artistic sense of proportion, the model proportions are a little off. The scale is 1:12, hand-made and scratch-built; the carriage and barrel are of wood, with heat-blued steel trim to simulate wrought iron. The drivers are in the Royal Artillery Uniform of 1809.

Regards, John

Wow, this is pretty good! It looks nice, and I would like to see another one of your sculptures sometime!

Thank you very much! This wagon model goes along with the cannon, and is also based on the movie:

Comparison to the film wagon:

And end view of the model:

And a team and driver added:

Making a wagon required many hours studying books on wagons and wheel-wright work; I was, for a long while of the making, on a model wagon builder's forum, but had to leave as there was no "good manners" policy, and I had experienced some very oppressive (to me, at any rate) and inconsiderate responses in the end (some of the "expert" types did not like my work, and went overboard with non-constructive criticism).

Regards, John

Cool! I like it. I'd like to have a go at my own wooden creations.
