Usually I go on CNET to read the reviews but all I get when I type CD players is the portable stuff... I need to replace my home audio system, I want a high quality long lasting CD player that will connect to amps. I don't need any of the digital MP3 reading or over the internet streaming nonsense, I have my Mac for that... Can anyone advise? Max budget in total is 500 Euros but I'd like to stay WAY below that if possible. I also don't like too much bass, as with headphones I can't stand bass it makes me feel dizzy because the doctor says I hear Bass a lot louder than everything else plus I think too much bass drowns the voices in a song and the voices are what I care about most so that aint good. Basically just a high quality CD system that doesn't lag, that doesn't look like a big chunk of plastic and that can produce enough volume to support a party - but not too much bass please! Can anyone advise? (PS: I live in Europe, so won't be able to get the fancy stuff the americans can get, yeah american audio systems are great I heard.) Anyway, I'd really appreciate some help! :)

PS: I'm not connecting it to my TV nor over the internet or any of that fancy stuff. My digital music is for my MP3 player, I want a CD player to play the originals when at home.

for playing cd's, the newer dvd and blu-ray players have pretty good digital to analog systems, so you can save money by using your video player to play cd's.

i have a krell pre amp and amp and use kef 104.2 speakers. cardas cables. glorious sound.

if i was going to try to build a system for 500e i would certainly look for used equipment. there are great deals to be had. check out e-bay for mid-fi equipment.

no bass----i'm with you there. if i was going to buy new speakers, they would be far from full range. maybe a 1" dome tweeter and a 4 or 5" woofer. don't need the 20-50 hz range.

as weird as it sounds, in audio gear, usually, the heavier the better.

you can make stands yourself if your able to work with wood. sturdy, stable, heavy stands are a must.

hard to build a great sounding audio system for 500 euros. hope you do well.

I don't understand much about that stuff, I am such a newbie :) What exactly does one need for an Audio System?

I'd rather have a system that only reads CDs I already have a DVD-BR reader in the living room with the TV.

If audio is your priority then stick to an audio only player as the dedication of resources to quality audio processing will please your ears.

The key to choosing audio equipment is remembering that it is only ever going to reproduce an approximation of 'natural' sound and buying around qualities that best suit the main styles of music you listen to.

You already have an amp and speakers and presumably enjoy their sound so perhaps getting a mid price player with a neutral sound would be the best choice. I am quite out of touch with the industry but something from panasonic or technics [if they still exist] might suit your needs. Go out and have a look around and get some demonstrations in shops.

I always thought of getting a home theatre system and then I could run the cd or dvd player through it. You could pick out how much you need and or how much you are willing to spend. They have good reviews on Newegg for general good sounding systems.

But I just want something with CD/amp/speakers, not a DVD player or a TV connected to it... I don't watch TV, at least not often. I don't need any USB or iPod connectivity either.
