Does anyone have particular tastes in music that they hide from others? For example, publicly, i am known as a fan of Christian Rock/Worship music. (Disciple, POD, Seventh Day Slumber, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, and so on.) My tastes also include 90's modern rock (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Janes Addiction, Goo Goo Dolls...) I also listen to a little country and even smooth jazz. Rap is my one genre that i cannot tolerate.

In private, when nobody else is home, and with headphones only, out come my musical guilty pleasures, i wont even reveal to my mother. Sarah McLachlan, Pink, Liz Phair, Natalie Merchant, Culture Club, Melissa Etheridge, Seal, Hootie and the Blowfish, Vengaboys, Avril Lavigne, Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, and just about any 90's club music.

I am NOT gay, i swear. But, i just feel that its somehow wrong of me to listen to, much less enjoy this music. Some of this, my mother listened to when i was a child (everything 80's and 90's), so theres a sense of nostalgia to these songs.

Is it just me or does society expect certain groups of people to have certain musical tastes? Do any of you have "guilty pleasures"?

Discuss....

Pretty much every single song I listen to on a regular basis is a guilty pleasure, some more than others. Examples: Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Pussycat Dolls, Usher, and a huge variety of miscellaneous eurodance, anime theme songs and video game music. You can imagine why I hate answering the question "What are you listening to?"

I like being unique. Though, I'm reluctant to tell people I like Hey, Soul Sister by Train and that I like Björk so much that I have all of her studio albums on my iPod.

Can't say that i have any guilty pleasures when it comes to music. My music taste may seem strange for someone my age, but i don't really care. I just love the 60's music and jazz and blues. Right now i'm really into Miles Davis.

Abba, Olivia Newton-John, and other 70's bubblegum pop is the closest thing I have to a guilty pleasure. I listen mostly to classic rock/prog/metal, but I do not hide any music I listen to. It's a large part of who I am

My mom is a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac, especially Stevie Nicks. Pretty much the highlight of my mom's life was when my dad took her to Las Vegas to see them live a couple of years ago.

I don't feel guilty or embarrassed about any music I like per se, but there is some stuff I like that people might not ever expect me to (considering I'm someone who listens to and performs very dark, harsh, experimental, atonal industrial music). Cyndi Lauper, Daft Punk, and some Madonna songs are a few examples.
