I'm going to be taking a trip to Wisconsin soon. We're driving so it's going to take about a good 24 hours to get there.

I've got a couple of audio books already. The Mote in God's Eye, Childhood's End and Rendezvous with Rama. I'd like others like them.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is very well written and read, and is very interesting, about the HELA cell line, and the woman the cells came from.

Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammett, if you've not read it, is an interesting autobiography by a man with Autism and savant abilities. It's read by the author, and I find his reading style very easy to listen to.

Sorry, in my enthusiasm to answer I overlooked that you were looking for books in a specific vein.

The books I have suggested are not like the books you have, but I will still recommend them as very good to listen to.

Paul Giamatti's reading of A Scanner Darkly is magic.

my favorite book on cd is 'under the dome', the stephen king masterpiece. read by raul esparza. he is wonderful with voices.

recently picked up hyperion, by dan simmons. read by several people. also great.

a terrible audiobook is the dean koontz novel, watchers. one of my favorite books in written form. it is read by a man who has no feel for the material and his voice just sucks.

Sorry to divert your thread, but after the last comment I had to ask:

If you could have anyone read a book to you, who would it be?

My answer: James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Patrick Stewart

Sorry, I don't have any recommendations read by these readers. And to be honest I tend to read my own fiction and use audio books for other stuff. But if you like his writing, Wil Wheaton does all his own reading. So far I've enjoyed the audio books he's done.

Patrick Stewart would be ideal. Not just because I love the guy so much, but he speaks in such a way that every word is clear.

There's a very good article on Slate called "Read Me a Story, Brad Pitt" about the ups and downs of audio book readers, if anyone's interested.
