well, since I'm a kid classical music has been my special interest and I studied classical piano. I always was very much into Liszt but I'm interested in anything from Bach to Prokofiev, every composer is so different.
Any other classical pianists around? :)

Definitely. It's not the only thing I listen to, but it's the only thing I seriously listen to -- if that makes sense. I'm mostly drawn to Baroque keyboard music, but I'll listen to just about anything. It's super-easy to experience live classical music where I live, so I try to do that often -- every week or two? It can definitely get expensive, though. :? I also have a classical CD and LP collection that just hit 1,500 titles. I admit there's not enough time to listen to them all(!)

Your user name evidences some pretty rarified taste. Do you have a favorite recording of everyone's least favorite??? (J.K.)

I like the Penguin Cafe Ochestra. Here's one of their most famous pieces: Perpetuum Mobile.

I also like Arvo Pärt. Here's one of his most famous pieces: Spiegel im spiegel. It has been used in many films.

I prefer chamber music, string 4tets, or small groups to symphonies. Also experimental/avant-garde stuff.

Morton Feldman
John Cage
Iannis Xenakis
Oliver Messaen
Pierre Henry
Steve Reich
Philip Glass
Eric Satie

Beethoven's symphonies #7 and #9
Mozart's Requiem
Carl Orff "Carmina Burana"
Barber's Adagio
"Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" forget the composer but it's what Wendy (Walter) Carlos based the theme of "A Clockwork Orange" on

Surprised you didn't mention Henryk Goreki and Bruno Sanphillipo.

I love the more relaxed classical pieces, not so much full on orchestra.

Rachmaninov
Debussy
Puccini
Shostakovich
Chopin

Two less well known artists, Silvestrov.

Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard ensemble. Choral and saxaphone fusion.

Yes, I listen to Public Radio everyday. I have a large number of favorites but the one I really love and have collected the most CD's of is Chopin.

i have a jazz orchestration of mussorgsky's "pictures at an exhibition" that i believe to be the bee's knees 8) it rocks :)
duke ellington in 1970 composed an orchestral jazz suite for a ballet called "the river" which is meant to be a musical emulation of flowing water, at least in the philosophy of it. it is an intriguing listening experience. i just love the choral version of the polevtsian dances conducted by naemi jarvi, it has the most life of all the performances of this piece i've heard. i have the buketoff version of the 1812 overture [with choir, massed brass band, pipe organ, carillon and cannon] that is literally a blast. :)
